description
This hotel in the heart of Sri Lanka is a 21 suite, small, luxury, designer - lifestyle hotel with individual plunge pools (a swimming pool for two) in every suite.
We attempted to create a lifestyle where wild elephants who were born before us still continue to do so unhindered with minimum disturbance to them or any other form of biodiversity with an abundance of animal life which still call this place their home. No trees were cut or any fences erected, the naturescape remains unchanged.
The hotel is on two hundred acres of unfenced jungle land, naturescaped where essential with indigenous plants, bordering a teak forest, a lake with a breathtaking view of the Sigiriya Rock Fortress.
The suites have been exquisitely designed combining the latest in architectural trends in boutique hotel design, with reproductions of antique furniture made with non-forest timber. A large bathroom with "His & Her" vanity, shower with glass roof, thick terry bathrobes, a dressing room, a bedroom with four poster bed and Egyptian cotton bed linen, cable TV and DVD a large outdoor terrace with a day bed and impromptu dining facilities. The Romantic suite has its plunge pool in the suite bed room which has a mirror above its four poster bed. The presidential villa boasts of its 4 bed room suite and its 2 private pools that accommodates up to eight guests very comfortably.
We are located in Sigiriya, one of the cultural sites in Sri Lanka.
Distance from the International Airport is 153 km
Distance from Colombo city 169 km

how this holiday makes a difference
During the construction, interference with nature was kept to a minimum. The natural streams that flowed still continue on their meandering paths unhindered beckon the guests at the hotel to climb onto picturesque suspension bridges when walking along paths. The unique feature of the hotel is the silence. No motorised traffic is allowed in to the hotel premises to minimise the impact on nature, instead the visitors are encouraged to use the electric car or bicycles. With the construction of the hotel a new approach road was constructed that is now is an impetus to the village community of the area in transporting their produce to the main road. We have never infringed on the rights of the people of the area nor imposed any regulations when commuting on the hotel roads. We use recycled sewerage water for watering manicured lawns. We are inculcating an awareness to protect the fragile ecosystem among the villagers living around the area and also contribute to raise the living standards of the people by purchasing as much as possible our requirements of fruits and vegetables from the farming community. We have also provided job opportunities in both skilled and unskilled grades for the youth of the area. |
Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people. We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel. 'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left). We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays. We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism. This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards. |
