description
One of Turkey's best small hotels in a mountain farming village on the Lycian Way.
We are situated near the Mediterranean coastal resort of Kalkan. A 150-year-old farmhouse, skillfully renovated as a charming, simple guesthouse, with friendly, personal service from the owners, who are always on hand.

Set in its own grounds where almonds and fig trees, grape vines and pomegranates grow, its windows look out over the fields to the mountains surrounding the village. The house has 3 rooms, with comfortable spotlessly clean beds, and modern facilities with constant hot water.

It's the ideal place for a completely relaxing holiday - calm and peaceful, far from the stresses of modern living, yet it's so close to lots of interesting places that it makes an ideal base for exploring. We offer a choice of Bed and Breakfast or Half Board, and we pride ourselves on our service. Guests can relax in the gardens, or stretch out on the huge balcony with its traditional comfy cushions and pillows.

Once you've been here a day or two, you'll have unwound, slowed to a gentler pace - and feel like exploring! This makes a great base to see the coast or the mountains

Family friendly Kalkan accommodation:
This accommodation is set in its own grounds, which are fenced, so children can play in safety. We are in the countryside, and surrounded by farms, so there is plenty for interested parents to show their children, including our own goats and chickens!

Disabled access:
Kalkan accommodationWe have 2 rooms situated on the ground floor of the building, both with their own toilet/shower. The garden itself is all on the flat. However, the large balconies of the farmhouse are upstairs, so not easily accessible for somebody with a serious mobility problem. Also, the track to the farmhouse is stony, so wouldn't be suitable for wheelchairs. This accommodation would be okay for anyone with restricted mobility, but not for anybody in a wheelchair, or with very poor mobility. We are suited for those with mental disabilities or sight impairment.
travellers' tales
This is a wonderful place, very tranquil and relaxing, unless you dislike country sounds (cockerels crowing, goats bleating and of course the hooting of owls at night!). We absolutely loved it and think anyone with a soul would do so too!  (more)
rooms, food and facilities
Bedroom at Kalkan accommodation We have two double rooms and one twin/triple. Each has its own toilet/shower, with modern facilities and 24 hour hot water, and in each we supply a hospitality tray with complimentary tea/coffee making facilities, towels and a hairdryer.

Our gardens have almond, pomegranate & fig trees, and a large balcony stretches the whole length of house for use of guests only. Picture yourself in the morning, sitting on our terrace in the warm Turkish sun, shaded by a pergola of vines, surrounded by pots of sweet-scented geraniums and herbs.

Terrace at Kalkan accommodation Erol is a chef of 18 years' experience, and his speciality (not surprisingly!) is traditional Turkish cooking. We use the best local produce we can find in our cooking, and fresh organic vegetables and herbs grown in our own gardens whenever possible.

Breakfast comes - fresh bread, honey from our own family's bees, creamy yoghurt, a choice of cheeses, olives, home-made jams from the fruits in our own garden, local free-range fresh farm eggs.

Twin bedroom at Kalkan accommodationIf you have any special dietry requirements, just ask. Vegetarians need have no worries in this country! Alternatively, if your children want egg & chips, it's no problem.

Take your time, eat it at your leisure, the only sounds are the chirping of the birds, the jingle of goat-bells, in the distance a donkey brays. Breathe the clean, fresh air of the mountains, savour the perfume of the flowers in the garden. The mountains are only a stone's-throw away, and the view is of a 3000-year-old Lycian city.

Organic produce: We have been gardening organically at our Kalkan accommodation now for nine years, and are really seeing some good results from it. We use no insecticides, pesticides, herbicides or chemical fertilisers whatsoever. To improve the land's fertility, we make our own compost, and use manure produced by the family's goats.

Erol's Mum has her own chickens - genuine free range hens, which roam free in the gardens, rather than being kept in barns or similar, and the resulting eggs are a revelation! Our honey is produced by bees belonging to Erol's sister, and we buy our yoghurt from a couple of our neighbours, who have their own goats.

Any beef or chicken we use in cooking is produced locally, as is the fish. We can offer lots of different herb teas, all from organically grown fresh herbs in the garden. Anyone who'd like to taste the difference in food produced organically is welcome to come and visit, and sample Erol's cooking for themselves!
how this holiday makes a difference
Local woman near Kalkan accommodationAt our Kalkan accommodation we buy all our produce (meat, fruit, vegetables, dairy, fish) locally, and where possible use fruit and vegetables grown organically in our own gardens. We try to encourage others, both visitors and locals, to adopt organic practices.

Erol was born & bred in this village, and this is the first new enterprise to be started here for many years. We were first to restore one of the old traditional farmhouses, then opened it as a small hotel, the only one in the village. All materials used in restoration and in building our own house next door are local and in keeping with the village, & we used all local workmen.

We bring only small groups to our Kalkan accommodation which do not disrupt village life, and try to preserve & promote the area's culture & traditions, and to discourage inappropriate development or speculation.

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've lead the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
