Each season we offer our own attractions. In Spring, experience the flurry of farmwork, new-born lambs and the sowing of crops. In Summer take a farm or bog walk - help with the vegetables! Come Autumnm, enjoy Nature's harvest: Pick blackberries from the hedgerows and make your own jam! In Winter, Laze in front of the open stove.
While staying with us, you can explore the area by taking a cycle on one of our mountain bikes. Enjoy the distinct sounds, smells and views of the countryside as you tour the quiet by-ways. We will supply you with local maps. Stroll into the bog to experience the tranquillity and solitude of this wonderful haven. If you are feeling energetic why not lend a hand to the turf cutters during the summer months! While there, you can also admire the unique bogland flora.
Why not take a fishing boat, available for hire at Terryglass quay, and discover the joys of boating on Lough Derg. Chance your luck at fishing and the local pubs will cook your catch! There are also a wide range of activities available locally. These include set dancing, tennis, pony-trekking, water-skiing, wind-surking and cruising on the Shannon. And do you plat golf? If so, there are 4 excellent courses at; Nenagh, Birr, Roscrea and Portumna. All are within 30 minutes drive.

how this holiday makes a difference
The cottages provide an income which allows us to bring up our family on a third generation family farm. All labour and inputs sourced locally as much as possible. Guest are encouraged to take part in local life such as Irish dancing classes, attend local shows and support other local enterprises such as restaurants, craft shops etc. During the summer months there are Irish Dancing and Social nights held in the village hall and all proceeds go to charity. We have a recycling system in place for glass, cardboard, food waste etc. The cottages are insulated to a high standard and we have used non toxic paints and water based varnishes. We restored two old derelict buildings dating back before the 1860's and recycled a lot of materials in the building process. We meter electricity charges so visitors are encouraged not to waste. |
Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people. We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel. 'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left). We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've lead the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays. We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism. This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards. |
