description
Some years ago the Cyprus Tourism Organization (CTO) developed a program which aimed at the restoration of traditional village houses and their conversion into tourism accommodation establishments, traditional tavernas, museums and craft workshops.

With their initiative and support of the tour company was formed in 1995 aiming at the promotion of the traditional house as tourism accommodation. Currently over 60 registered houses offer a taste of nature and tradition in the countryside. These restored lodgings create a warm atmosphere that will be engraved deep in your memory. You will enjoy the comfort of a household that will soon feel like home. From then on await a handful of pleasant surprises nature has in store for you; millions of different scents, images of unparalleled beauty, walks down natural trails, visits to historical monasteries and the real life of the country.

Cyprus the birthplace of Aphrodite goddess of love. A land of contrasts, has been at the crossroads of world events for centuries. The island has proved irresistible to many famous historical personalities.

The traditional villages enhance and complement a wonderful natural environment, with their local character, traditional architecture and village planning. They are conducive to a harmonious coexistence of man with nature. In such an environment the visitor has the benefit of daily hands on experience of the rich traditions of village people; the simple, serene rhythms of rural life, folk customs, daily activities and the authentic taste of traditional cuisine, all filtered through the sense of genuine hospitality.Activities you may wish to take part in in the local area include:Walking, nature trails, bird watching, cycling, horse riding, visiting cultural heritage attractions and other places of interest, cultural or environmental

We are dotted all over the Island, covering most of rural Cyprus. Some of us are nearer Larnaca airport and some nearer Paphos airport.
travellers' tales
We were only here for four nights but the house was lovely and we'd have stayed longer if we'd had more time - the kitchen was very well equipped and we even a basket of fresh salad vegetables and delicious Cyprus bread. (more)

  • how this holiday makes a difference
Agrotourism helps the revitalisation of village economic activities. It gives pride to the locals and encourages them to look to preserve the traditional ways of village life, activities, traditional arts and crafts while at the same time to maintain and preserve the cultural heritage. It creates jobs for local people who are happy to work in the village while maintaining their agricultural and farming activities.

The countryside is nurtured and treated with more respect. There is a pride in the surrounding country and concentration on trying to preserve and develop natural plant and wildlife. The program contributes towards the preservation of the built and natural environment. The restoration of existing buildings and their conversion into rural tourism accommodation. We use solar energy for hot water.

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
