description
Welcome to the most, vibrant, laid-back town in all Morocco. Spend your days wandering the narrow medina streets, sharing tea with those that you meet and searching for treasure amongst the noisy, lively markets. Dine on delicious, slow-cooked tajines of lamb and figs mopped up with flat Moroccan bread. Stroll along the endless Atlantic sands and drink more tea whilst the sun sets behind the coastal islands.
At the end of such a tiring day, return home to your oasis of calm amongst the streets of Essaouira’s medina. Situated near the old town walls, only moments from the bustle of the market and the winds of the beach, our riad provides a retreat from all that is Morocco.
A tall, never-endingly upward house, built in traditional style, climbs in cool shade until one emerges on to the beautiful lilac roof terrace to be bathed in sunlight. The outwardly unimposing façade opens to reveal a hidden gem of a house.
Colours, textures and architecture are all Moroccan and locally created, but with a twist of European influence. Cool ‘tadelakt’ in pale tones and bright, hand-woven fabrics and hand-formed tiles contrast and complement. The open-roofed riad – a traditional feature – brings birds which settle on the balcony and bright blue sky from within the house.
Comfortable and informal; this is an easy house to feel at home in. No sterile hotel where you are afraid to touch anything. This is your home for the length of your stay. Slip on your babouches and relax.
Children: Children are very welcome and some games, toys and books are provided for them. However, like most Moroccan houses, this one consists of many stairs, hard floors and balconies.
Limited mobility: The ground floor has been designed to accommodate people with limited mobility. It has no steps or stairs throughout. Please contact if you have specific requirements.
Daily direct flights from London to Marrakesh (3hr 30mins). Taxi to Essaouira (2hr 30mins) - about £30. Buses from Marrakech to Essaouira - about 4 a day (2hr 30mins - 4 hrs) - about £4.
Taxis from the airport can be arranged. You can be met by Fatima from the taxi in Essaouira, although the house is very easy to find. Sometimes charter flights or package holidays to Agadir can be a cheap option. Agadir is a 3 hr taxi ride from Essaouira.
Cheaper option may be to fly to Malaga, catch the ferry to Tangiers and ride the Marrakech Express down south. Information on logistics of this route, on request.

travellers' tales
The most memorable part was arriving in Essaouira at night and wandering the dark streets of the medina attempting to find our Riad without looking lost...after we found it, popping out for a quick bite and ending up on the main street. (more)
rooms, food and facilities
Spread over 3 floors plus the roof, the house has two double rooms, one with extra sofa/bed and a very basic room on the roof which can be camped out in during the warmer summer nights. There are two shower rooms and an extra toilet. The house is has a traditional Moroccan kitchen and all linen and towels are provided. Books, toys and a CD player help to make your stay a pleasant one. The accommodation is simple but adequate. how this holiday makes a difference

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left). We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays. We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism. This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards. |
