description
Located in Central Zagori in the traditional village of "Ano Pedina", this recently opened guesthouse is a restored 1870's mansion providing high quality accommodation. It is a beautiful building, luxurious and elegant, located in the Zagori district of Northwest Greece amongst the mountains of Vikos-Aoos National Park.

Consisting of traditional stonework, wooden floors, colorful ceilings and traditional antique furniture, the accommodation consists of seven comfortable and atmospheric rooms, each with a different style. The hotel has a bar and a living room with fireplace and is full of local character. The courtyards, which are surrounded by primoules, petounia and pansedes, offer a spectacular view of the village and the surrounding area.

Zagori is home to both the Vikos Gorge and Voidomatis and is a unique place which is protected from the outside world by high mountains. The village is a traditional settlement dating back to 1361 with many remarkable buildings from the 18th and 19th century. Bridges, fountains, wells and monasteries blend into the local environment which is made up of virgin beech and oak forests containing rare plants and herbs.

It is situated a relatively short distance (35 Km) from Ioannina close top the new country road which connects the West with Central Zagori, and ensures easy access to western towns (Papigo 22 km, Aristi 12 km), as well as the more remote villages in the east (Tsepelovo 25 km, Negades 15 km).

Ano Pedina is one of the most beautiful traditional villages of Zagori and important sites for the vistor include Labriadios School, Monastery of Evagelistria (1793), Monastery of Ag. Paraskevi (1750), Temple of Ag. Dimitrios (1793). Further afield, attractions include Monodendri, the Vikos gorge (6 km) and the Kipoi Bridges (9 km).

The guesthouse aims to offer tranquil, personalised services which explore the cultural and natural riches of the region. There are a variety of activities on offer which combine action and adventure in this beautiful environment. Visits to churches, monasteries, bridges and watermills allow visitors to recognise the special identity of the region and support this unique destination.

The hotel is a small-scale building in complete harmony with the environment and local architecture. During the restoration of the old house traditional techniques and materials were used.

This included re-using old stones for the walls, grey stone tiles for the roofs and timber from the nearby forest for the floors and ceilings.

Through working in partnership with environmental organisations like W.W.F. the guesthouse offers its clients information and advice about the natural and man-made environment in order to allow them to contribute towrds its protection.

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
