rooms, food and facilities
Our Queen Charlotte Track accommodation offers a wide range of activities, from kayaking on the calm waters to soaking in the spa pool among the punga trees.

There are four hectares (10 acres) of native bush to stroll around and seats, picnic tables and hammocks can be found along the way. All offer spectacular views of the Queen Charlotte Sounds – and you may even happen across the mysterious Punga People..

Kayaks, a rowboat and snorkelling gear can be used free of charge. You might like to hire a fishing rod for the day, play a game of petanque, or simply rest in a hammock with a book. Massage therapy is also offered onsite for those looking for a bit of relaxation. This is a nature lover’s paradise with lots of native birds, friendly animals, bush walks and glowworms. We have a spa pool as well as a safe swimming beach. There is boat access from Picton – we can arrange a pickup for you on the Lochmara Lodge boat, as there are no roads to the lodge
how this holiday makes a difference
At our Queen Charlotte Track accommodation, we predator control and plant habitat in our area area, offering safe refuge for native species for visitors to view in the wild. The population of birds on the property has dramatically increased during the last ten years.

In partnership with DOC, we provide a facility for injured wildlife to be cared for until they can be released back into the wild. We also breed native endangered species to enhance mainland and offshore islands. We are currently breeding Geckos, Kakariki, and Weka as well as providing nesting boxes for Blue Penguin and Tree Wetas.

We believe education is key to sustainable conservation. Guests have the opportunity to take a self-guided eco-tour, as we have a network of educational materials around the lodge grounds for adults and children alike.

We use 100% plant-based environmentally friendly cleaning products. We offer free visits to local school groups to learn about the native parrot (Kakariki) and importance of conservation efforts.

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
