"These idyllic beach chalets on Tioman Island provide the perfect escape for relaxation and exploration. I love the idea of spending the day discovering the jungle or snorkeling in the clear blue sea and then the evening enjoying a tropical cocktail on the white sand beach."

  • how this holiday makes a difference

    Beach resort ecological design
    - The beach resort is designed to harmoniously blend with the natural surroundings of jungle, mountains and sea on Tioman Island. Each resort building is connected to a natural feature, be it a giant rock, or magnificent tree. The buildings themselves are entirely made of natural materials, with hand woven roofs and floor to ceiling softwood windows. Recycled materials are used where possible, for example the 100ft jetty is made entirely of recycled wood.

Beach resort environmental appreciation – All guests are encouraged to enjoy nature as it is, in its wild and magical form, rather than in a sanitised setting of zoo or park. Wildlife is abundant at the beach resort and we endeavour to point out the inherent diversity on walks and snorkelling safaris. Our library is well stocked with books on Tioman Island's local flora and fauna for after-activity research.

Beach resort waste reduction – All waste is recycled or disposed of responsibly at the beach resort. Where possible we endeavour to purchase products with minimal packaging. Plastics are avoided and resort guests are encouraged to drink mountain spring water rather than mineral water, thus reducing plastic bottle waste on Tioman Island.

Beach resort minimal footprint – Our beach resort is small for a very good reason. This way we can offer individual service to each and every guest, and also ensure that we are not overburdening Malaysia's natural environment with human presence.

Tioman Island local culture - We regularly shop locally, and make the most of the natural abundance of fish and fruit on Tioman Island for serving in our own restaurant. We endeavour to reflect the diverse cultures of Malaysia in our meals as well as in our choice of furniture/decoration. Local customs are respected and we ask our resort guests to share in this.

Tioman Island local connections - Our staff are mostly locally recruited from Tioman Island, all with knowledge of local flora, fauna and myths! We take people on visits through local villages, where we make an effort to introduce our guests to villagers and their way of life.

At another level, we offer our advice with a sustainable development slant to Tioman island as a whole and support local events with time and donations.

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
