description
We offer a unique privately staffed Bed and Breakfast Chalet on the historic Sussex/Seville Estate. Our objective is to give you a natural and realistic Jamaican home experience. Some of the words our guests have used to describe their experience with us are "authentic, learning, enriching and rewarding."
This accommodation is for those with a yearning to explore, a sense of fun and a wish to get off the beaten path. We welcome travellers who want to experience Jamaica and its people. Our guests enjoy a flexible and relaxed attitude towards travel, come from all corners of the world, are of all ages, and when it comes to group size believe smaller is better!
The St.Ann's Bay area where we are located has a rich, thriving and robust culture you may have never before experienced. It is the birth place of many of our cultural leaders including Marcus Garvey, Burning Spear and about two hours drive to the Nine Mile, birth place of Bob Marley.
You can also enjoy quiet walks and hiking exercise through our allspice plantation with tropical birds and fruit trees, or just relax and read a book on your own private balcony overlooking a lush tropical ravine that has a spectacular view.
Ms. Ruth, our cook and family member, will fix you old world traditional Jamaican country style meals, seasoned with home grown spices and herbs served with freshly prepared tropical fruit juices from her open kitchen right before your eyes. You'll have an unforgettable Jamaican "backayaad" experience.

rooms, food and facilities
Comfortable and relaxing, each bedroom has it's own private en suite bathroom and is decorated in a rustic Jamaican/Spanish theme that flows with the history of the larger Seville Estate. Fresh linens and towels are provided, and high open rafter ceilings allow cool, comfortable air to flow throughout the rooms with ceiling fans.
The lush tropical view of the ravine with the early morning rising sun from your private balcony is so spectacular, and the rustic but polished wooden bedroom floors give a nostalgic feeling of the old world Country Estate Homes of the 1940's period.
A large living and dining room capable of seating over 8 people remains uncluttered with over 1000 sq feet in area space. It's ideal for birthday parties or a small private country wedding!
The open concept galley kitchen is ideal to see and learn how traditional Jamaican meals are prepared and can be served either individually or in groups by Ms. Ruth and her staff. Kitchen appliances includes a modern counter-cook top stove, a two door refrigerator with ice maker, and microwave oven. We also have an outside grill.
By road: We are located off the beaten path in St. Ann’s Bay to the western side of Ocho Rios.

how this holiday makes a difference
We strive to ensure that tourism benefits local people and that it includes their involvement in every aspect of its development. We are located in an area where we invited the participation of our locals in planning and we give back to their children what ever we can to make their lives a little better. Our business is non profit driven establishment. So that the local community will benefit from your visits, we have set our prices at very affordable rates. The nearest village is a small but mixed population of farmers, business owners and friendly people who always extend greetings to you whenever you meet. The distance from the chalet is about 15-20 minutes walk passing a beautiful old C18 Presbyterian United Church. We are an eco-lodge bed and breakfast chalet that is committed in making a difference in our community and the environment. We encourage the use of shared-taxi service located in our village for transportation of our guests. From time to time we recommend alternative environmental and social programs on our web site. The chalet is equipped with ceiling fans to save energy and we encourage the use of showers instead of baths. |
Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people. We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel. 'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left). We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays. We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism. This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards. |
