description
Our family-owned and run guesthouse offers immaculately clean accommodation in round chalet-style cottages with fans, air conditioning, and en suite toilet and shower.
Nestling close to the ancient capital of Marwar, 7 km from Jodhpur, our superb location ensures peace, tranquility and absolute privacy. Built on 25,000 sq yards with a large open area and landscaped gardens, the accommodation is only 2 minutes walk from the gardens of Mandore.
You will quickly feel at home thanks to the kindness of the entire family and will be welcomed by the owner Surendra on arrival. Please do not hesitate to leave any extra medicines to Surendra who will give them in the villages according to their needs.
Volunteer programmes: India's cultural diversity is amazing to take in - her colors, sounds and smells bristle with intensity. It is crowded with people, scattered with temples choked cities, and cut through by sacred rivers like the Ganges. India is economically very poor, consequently, volunteer work is quickly absorbed and we need many more overseas volunteers. We would like to invite you to take in a small part of this great land, on a volunteer projects in Rural Rajasthan where all social and cultural life revolves either a village well or a temple.
You will certainly find living and working in India a challenge and it will take time to come to terms with a very different culture and environment. We believe whole heartedly that we have great learning opportunities through people of all nations; our purpose is not to change the culture of our host country, but to embrace and better understand the differences that give equal value to each society. We believe the footprint we leave behind should be gentle, the friendships great, and the memories and understandings gained should help to change the lives forever.
Our accommodation & programmes have been recommended by Lonely Planet, French Guidebook - Le Guide Du Routard and Rough Guides for places to sleep around Jodhpur apart from organising community service projects in the nearby villages to benifit the local community.

Environment
We do have a priority & positive role in preserving and protecting our cultural and natural resources which also meets the need for ecologically sensitive travel. We provide fresh water and food for the local garden birds and use natural planting to attract them. Community We believe that tourism should be about interacting with other cultures, not exploiting them. This could mean more working and travelling with local people on public buses rather than looking at them through the window of a private tour bus. We bring people together from different regions, states, countries, cultural heritage, social and political backgrounds. The component of voluntary work also supports socio-economic aspects and women's issues on practical projects of direct benefit to local communities. We are actively involved with and support projects that are secular and have an education-related component to them apart from regular, environment, socio-economic aspects and women's issues. Such projects provide an inter-cultural learning experience and the real opportunity to explore a new country and a new culture in a deeper and more respectful way than as tourists. The natural, healthy exchange of ideas and opinions does lead to a mutual understanding of colorful cultures in so short time. The experience will likely change how you see the world. You will interact with local community members, not only getting a chance to see their traditional culture but to understand it on a much deeper level. |
Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people. We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel. 'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left). We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays. We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism. This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards. |
