Exmoor self catering accommodation
Our spacious and well-appointed cottages are located in the glorious surroundings of Exmoor National Park; we offer absolute peace and quiet and yet are only three hours drive from London or Birmingham. You can walk the Two Moors Way which passes our gate, bring your dogs and even your horses and make use of our stables or simply sit quietly fishing and watching for the Exmoor Ponies, red deer or the multitude of wild birds.
If you wish to explore, our Exmoor self catering accommodation is within easy reach of the coastal towns of Porlock, Lynton and Lynmouth and close to Lorna Doone country. Hawkridge itself gets a mention in this book! There is a purpose built playground in front of the cottages as well as a selection of ride-on toys and the possibility of baby-sitting. We also have cots and highchairs available for your use.
As a family run business, we guarantee you a warm welcome in any one of our four cottages or in all four if you wish to bring your extended family too, perhaps for a special anniversary celebration. Part of our land has been designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest and you are welcome to explore all of our sixty acres of fields and woodlands. Wherever possible, we try to promote sustainable tourism here on Exmoor. Take a weekend break from the hustle and bustle or come and stay for a week or two; let Exmoor work its magic on you.
Please note: Discounts are available - 2 nights 50%, 3 nights 65%, 4 nights 75%, 5 nights 85%. 10% discount maybe given for second and subsequent visits of a week or more.

travellers' tales
The most memorable part of our holiday was arriving at the farm and find the perfect little cottage waiting for us with a wonderful cream tea, flowers and a cosy woodstove alight, after a 6-hour drive. (more)

how this holiday makes a difference
|
We source as much of our food and services from local providers as long as we are able to maintain a high level of quality. We endeavour to show our guests the multitude of places to visit on Exmoor in order that the maximum time and money stays in the area.
Our wood burners use sustainable wood produced by the park and we minimise the use of water wherever possible. We have an SSSI which runs through to our woodlands in which the park has created a nature reserve. We segregate our rubbish into glass, plastics, paper and cans. We recycle wherever possible and use water saving techniques in our cottages. In conjunction with the National Park we have creating a nature reserve in our woodlands. Our washing is done using “eco balls” rather than conventional washing powders and we have a policy of only washing towels that have been used rather than all towels. We aim to keep as much of the money spent on Exmoor helping local businesses and people; where possible we source our food and services locally. We are actively involved in the Moorland Mousie Trust which has been established to promote the survival of the Exmoor Pony. We are also part of CareMoor, an Exmoor charity that aims to provide additional facilities for Exmoor National Park; we donate the money from the sale of eggs from our chickens as well as general donations to this project. Wherever possible we will purchase local goods and services as long as the quality can be assured. All food purchased whenever possible is local, our food miles in respect of fresh meat are in single figures whereas many of our vegetables come from the farmers market in South Molton. Our guests are encouraged to stay on Exmoor in order that they can go to local attractions, shops and eating places so that the local economy benefits from our involvement in tourism. |
Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people. We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel. 'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left). We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays. We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism. This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards. |
