Herefordshire accommodation

This award winning self-catering and bed and breakfast accommodation is based on a working farm in Herefordshire. We are 'slow' food providers – which means local, traceable and yummy!

We have two characterful cottages so you can self-cater or have bed and breakfast with a whole cottage. In a beautifully converted stable block with four poster beds and enclosed herb garden, this is a comfy home from home with flair.

Ideally situated, our Herefordshire accommodation is 1 mile from a major nature trust reserve. Also worth checking out are the beauty of Herefordshire and the Marches borderland, and Hay-on-Wye just 8 miles away.

The uncluttered roads make this an ideal location for cycling and exploring. We have trails written to help you discover all the right things!
activities at Herefordshire accommodation
A carefully written farm trail is available should you wish to investigate the apple orchards and gaze a while at Hay Bluff and the Black Mountains further a field. This was fine tuned as part of the Herefordshire Nature Trust’s Growing Green Tourism initiative.

This is a working mixed enterprise farm. Depending on farm commitments, Jon enjoys taking guests around the orchards, talking about the ancient names of the fields, the crops that are grown and his life as a third generation farmer. Our daughters enjoy playing with guests and often walk their pony around pointing out local landmarks or simply guiding people around the farm.

Although, like all gardeners, we have a habit of saying 'if only you had been here last week…' there is never a time or an area which is not worthy of photographing or painting. We can also help arrange geological walks by a local expert or super cookery courses nearby.

Our Herefordshire accommodation is perfectly situated for 'Michelin starred' and 'Flavours of Herefordshire award winning' restaurants, the antique shops of Leominster (13 min) and the Black & White Tudor house village trail (terrific crafts). Other sightseeing options include Ludlow castle, Hereford (cathedral city) and Brecon and with prior arrangement we are able to drop you off/collect you by car.

Walking & biking at Herefordshire accommodation: We wash and dry things for walkers, rescue cyclists and have a secure lock up. There are plenty of walking and biking opportunities in the Black Mountains and Brecon Beacons, and we are close to Kington & Offa's Dyke. We can drop you off and pick you up later!
travellers' tales
There were so many of the little things that had been done to make our stay perfect - it was very much appreciated....Don't think about it, just do it, you'll have a great time. My only regret is not booking for longer.  (more)
rooms, food and facilities
Bedroom, Herefordshire farmstay accommodationHerefordshire accommodation: Bed and breakfast: The pretty bedrooms are thoughtfully furnished; lots of fluffy towels, a dressing gown, home-made soap – all the things you might forget. The mattresses are firm and new and can be enjoyed either in four poster or single style. Fabrics are hand-crafted and interlined for warmth and luxury and radiators are thermostatically controlled.

The welcome tea tray typically comes with home-made baking & fruit from the orchards, a range of teas and suggestions of local places to eat out.

Guests can stay in a secluded fully-equipped cottage or in the 17th century period farmhouse four poster suite. Delicious breakfasts can be taken in the dragon red dining room with a real fire overlooking the Victorian wellingtonias and yew parterre and rockery. Alternatively you can have cosy breakfasts served in your cottage or, if the weather is warm, breakfast can be enjoyed outside under the ancient wisteria.

Breakfast in the garden, Herefordshire farmstay accommodationThe aim of this B&B is always to exceed expectations, breakfast can be at any time ensuring true relaxation. Most people are lulled into a delicious, deep sleep thanks to Herefordshire’s refreshing air.

Guests have full use of the extensive garden, with adult sized slide and trampoline! Swinging seats and hidden seats enable you to read and bird watch in isolation whilst keeping an eye on the farming activities in the fields around you!

Herefordshire accommodation: Self Catering: The cottages share a lovely, enclosed herb garden, a real sun trap in the evening, ideal for barbecues and relaxing and the paved front provides ample car-parking or bicycle parking plus a superb spot in the sun to watch frantic swallows in their evening dance routine. Based in two super red brick stable conversions with beams and wood panelling, we have a choice of two cottages, and if you feel the need to be pampered breakfast and hampers can be provided with advance notice for fresh produce shopping:

Chess Cottage (sleeps 4): One double brass bed, one large single or twin bedroom, upstairs bathroom, electric shower over bath. Downstairs is open plan sitting/dining room with kitchen separated by original horse stable stall and comfy sofas. There is a dishwasher, electric oven, coffee percolator, washing machine, separate full sized fridge and freezer, double sink - useful in case you holiday with friends and book both cottages.

Apple Blossom Cottage (sleeps 4): This cottage is more suitable for those with some mobility problems. There are grab rails and a downstairs shower room and separate downstairs toilet. Upstairs there is a gorgeous four-poster bedroom and a twin bedroom with patchwork quilts overlooking the paddock with horses. An upstairs bathroom with shower and bath is well equipped as is the kitchen with fridge and small freezer box, washing machine, food mixer etc.

Our Weimaraner Millie, Herefordshire farmstay accommodationFamilies at Herefordshire accommodation: Children love to stay here, the garden is a real haven, and we are often making lacewing houses, putting up bird boxes or heaping up piles of wood to encourage wildlife. We have travel cots, high chairs and spare bedding to accommodate babies – anything else, just ask.

Disabled access at Herefordshire accommodation: We have a few things in Braille and can get things put into Braille very easily. There are various grab rails around the property (see Apple Blossom Cottage) but as a listed building, the accommodation isn't ideal for people with major mobility problems (width of doors etc.)

Pets & smokers at Herefordshire accommodation: Sorry, no smoking or pets - our dogs Milly and Ben, Bess the Welsh cob and the kittens Oscar and Pepper object... Jon’s cows aren't convinced either!
how to find Herefordshire accommodation

how this holiday makes a difference
Garden, Herefordshire farmstay accommodationWe have always tried to protect our environment and hope to attract guests who are interested in wildlife and their surroundings. The cottages are restored stables using local timber and stone. We are conscientiously creating ponds, planting trees, feeding and monitoring birds, saving energy, saving water, recycling and using environmentally products whenever possible.

Food is really important here, fresh, slowly gathered and slowly prepared. We buy locally as much as possible and as organic as possible (so produce is varied and seasonal), and are members of SLOW FOOD Herefordshire.

Herefordshire is bursting with high quality local produce, much of which can be found on our breakfast menu or in our hampers. Monkland Mousetrap cheese and Glyn-Slade Jones' chutney sausages or Tudges sausages are a must! Our welcome tea tray usually has home-made baking & fruit from the orchards and our garden is run on organic principles.

We’re Silver Award Wildlife Action and Green Business Awarded which means we’re continually striving to improve our environmental policies and actively encourage wildlife. The children are currently making bird boxes and lace-wing houses to boost the small bird population in woodland adjacent to an orchard.

Our aim is to preserve our rural heritage and share the stewardship of our farm. We’ve been involved in sustainable tourism for ten years, lecturing to Japanese groups and as part of the village local holiday co-operative (now disbanded). We promote staying in the area to cycle, walk and ride and encourage the use of public transport. We actively encourage guests to frequent the local community amenities and small shops so helping small independents, boosting the economy.
