Our Ecuador cloud forest lodge is a superb place to discover the wonders of Ecuador´s cloud forests, only one hour 40 minutes from the capital, Quito. You are guaranteed to see hummingbirds at very close range! There are lots more birds, exquisite orchids, and a forest full of magic and mystery with many species yet to be described to science! Known to be in the area, and at times in our own forest, but very rarely seen, is the Spectacled Bear.

Our Ecuador cloud forest lodge offers comfortable rooms with private baths and many with private balconies, views of the forest and the surrounding mountains, and good wholesome food with both an international and a local flavour.

Good wines and exotic fruit juices always available. While we recommend a stay of minimum 2 nights to really start to get to know the cloud forest, if your time is limited, even a day trip from Quito is also very worthwhile.

Transport is provided from the door of your hotel (see our website for info on packages), and there are many fascinating places to visit in the immediate region too – Cock of the Rock at their lek, canopy experience, a butterfly farm, and for birders, a region that has won the highest worldwide count for the Audubon one day bird count in December. For those who enjoy horseback riding we offer a trail with amazing views, and mountain bikers love the region. We are very open to families with children, who love our “Tarzan´s House” dome to stay!

The Dome offers 5 double rooms with private baths and balconies. On the top two floors, we have dormitory-style, shared bath accommodation, with 360 degree views and a large balcony!
Mountain forest hideaway: If you want to be alone in your forest cabin, we have a 2 storey house with a bathroom on each floor, offering complete seclusion, truly your own mountain forest hideaway!

The Trailhead House: This is our newest construction made of brick and wood designed to fit into the forest and the surrounding landscape. We have included spacious balconies each with chairs and hammocks, where our guests can rest while watching the hummingbirds come and go. The house has two floors and is decorated in our very own style. It can accommodate a family of 6 on the second floor and has a couple of very cosy double rooms on the first floor.

Our Bamboo House close to the Dome offers a further 3 rooms - one with 4 beds upstairs and access to a 2 storey balcony with an extra bed and a true bird´s eye view of the Tandayapa Valley! Downstairs there are two rooms, each with private bath and also a nice big balcony. Designed for small groups or families, people are finding this to be a wonderful alternative!!

By air: Nearest airport is Quito, one and a half hours away.
By road: We are in northwestern Ecuador, 12 km – turn off at km 52 - off the new road from the Mitad del Mundo (Equator Monument) towards Los Bancos , 4 km before Nanegalito.

Our Ecuador cloud forest lodge helps the local community – the few people who live in the vicinity – with jobs. And the environment benefits because people come and learn about the importance of conservation, and indeed to enjoy the experience of healthy nature, thus contributing greatly to awareness of the cloud forest and love for it.

Local people now think twice about cutting forest, seeing us as an example of the possibility to think of less destructive uses of the forest to make a living.

We work with local schools on visits at special rates. Care to respect local people´s culture is discussed by guides upon arrival at the lodge. However, we are located away from any immediate village community. We are working with a nearby small town to develop improved resource management practices.

We are part of efforts at education, job creation and eco-conscience building among local communities on the eco-route, where the lodge is located. In this respect we recommend and organize visits to environmentally responsible reserves run by local people.

We try to use only returnable bottles for beer, soft drinks, etc. Water saving guidelines are posted in all bathrooms. We are in the process of installing water-saving taps and energy-saving light bulbs. All garbage at our Ecuador cloud forest lodge is separated and organic waste composted. Waste management includes separation of grey and black waste waters and use of biodegradable soaps.

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.
