description
Our Haveli (house) has developed over a period of about 300 years. We aim to provide an experience of traditional Rajasthan associated with a rural Indian village feel. We strive to create awareness of Rajasthani traditions & customs, along with village handicraft & culture through this venture, which has been renovated as such.

Travellers also gain rich insights into Rajasthan, or the land of the Maharajas, through sightseeing of various forts, temples and tourist destinations around. At our homestay, tourists are our guests and we take great pride not only to make their stay comfortable but also to see that we and our family members take personal care of our guests.

  • how this holiday makes a difference
Being the biggest Haveli (house) in the village we provide employment for a number of people, eg. for the farms, for the rearing of cows/buffalos, various helpers, maids, cooks, local cab/taxi drivers, the gardeners, the village folk dance people, guides, etc. thus making a difference in their lives. We also strive to improve the development of the area and the neighbouring areas with respect to road network, communication, civil facilities, health care, etc.

We keep 5 cows & 2 buffalos for all our dairy needs (milk, cheese, etc). The majority of our supplies of fruits, vegetables and cattle food comes from our farms in Harji. Our farms strive to be organic; in the past, the farms had been destroyed by using bad manures (quick yield but bad for the soil) but now we are gradually transforming it back to the original soil by using organic products. We also use the dung from the animals and make them into "vermicompose" and use them as rich organic manures. Our fodder comes from the farms and we use Drip Irrigation, which saves water. Cow-dung cakes are used for fuel for cooking.

We have planted some endangered species of trees, fruits & vegetable trees & some medicinal plants on our farms and our property is home to a number of bird species (kingfisher, peacock, parrots, pigeons, owls, etc) due to the lush green gardens & lawns.

Plastic bags are a strict 'no' within & around our premises. We also educate the local people on their ill-effects and discourage their use. Guests are advised to avoid plastics, cans, etc and only have lights (fluorescent & CFL energy savers) on when needed. We use mostly eco-friendly cleaning products. Future plans include solar water heating panels, rain water harvesting and use of grey water for watering the lawns.

Farm guide at Rajasthan holiday accommodationWe have used locally available talent in decorating our rooms with mirror-work, embroidery, etc. Mrs. Singh is the head of the local Panchayat and has invited various NGO’s for rural development issues and for Women’s rights, etc. Old clothes are distributed among the various helpers and people working with us regularly.

We guide our guests with respect to language, dress, manners and traditions, and infact that is of primary importance to us. We aim to offer our visitors culture, tradition & a taste of rural Rajasthan.

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've lead the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
