There are plenty of things to do and there is also a plenty of time to just relax and enjoy the tranquillity of the place.

  • Bird watching - many varieties of birds (and butterflies) found in the Gambian birdwatcher’s guide reside in our garden, some permanently and other seasonally.
  • Cooking - our guests are offered the opportunity to assist in the preparation and cooking of typical Gambian meals.
  • Boat trip from Gambia guesthouseCycling - bicycles can be rented during your stay and cycling around the sandy path and tracks and down the red rutted roads is a great experience.

how this holiday makes a difference
We aim to maintain a sustainable environment and promote responsible tourism and simplicity of life. Therefore, our accommodation is simple and as eco-friendly as possible. There is no electricity and lamps and candles are lit in the night. All our water is pulled by wind power and we hope to install solar system as an alternative source of energy. We compost kitchen waste, recycle paper and glass.

Beach near Gambia guesthouseWe supply local hotels and guesthouses with fresh organic vegetables from professionally run small farm. In line with our belief in responsible tourism every attempt is made to keep the environment naturally sustainable and free of any chemicals or pollutants which may damage the eco system within it. We also use vegetables from the farm in our kitchen for preparing meals for our guests.

We offer a wide range of activities which aim to promote the idea of responsible tourism to the Gambia. Not only these activities contribute to the local economy but also encourage the interaction between local people and visitors. We employ a team of young local people who live in and undertake all daily domestic, maintenance and gardening works.

We also provide for them ongoing skills training including organic gardening, plant care, refuse management and maintenance of tools, etc. All works have been undertaken by local people, from building the houses to ploughing and planting in the garden.

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
