how this holiday makes a difference
Being the biggest Haveli (house) in the old city of Jodhpur we provide employment for a number of people, eg. various helpers, maids, cooks, local cab/taxi drivers, the gardeners, the local folk dance people, guides, etc. thus making a difference in their lives. We also strive to improve the development of the area and the neighbouring areas with respect to road network, communication, civil facilities, health care, etc. We are working with local administration to make sure that proper roads are developed for the area together with proper sanitation & cleanliness. Recently we have worked on the project together to make all the sewerage through underground pipes thus closing all the waste flowing onto road. The premises are decorated and maintained by using local material and local workmen. We have used locally available talent in decorating our rooms with mirror-work, embroidery, etc.

Plastic bags are a strict 'no' within & around our premises. We also educate the local people on their ill-effects and discourage their use. Guests are advised to avoid plastics, cans, etc and only have lights (fluorescent & CFL energy savers) on when needed. We use mostly eco-friendly cleaning products. Future plans include solar water heating panels, rain water harvesting and use of grey water for watering the lawns and half flush toilets.

We have started a fund of 1% towards the welfare of our staff or associated people and an additional 2% for the society for the betterment of education and medical services. We have collaborated with local hospital, Satyam Hospital towards healthcare betterment. We are regularly holding health camps together with satyam hospital at their premise which is free of cost for all attendees. We invite various specialists from hospital or other places for the same.

All our food, furnishings etc are procured locally. All our vegetables come from local farms in the area while for interior most of the things we have procured locally from shops or from nearby villages in the locality.) We provide guests all the information about the city and villages. We organize safari’s into nearby Bishnoi Village and Osian Village which helps the economy of those villages. Being in the old city use of local taxi’s is always recommended to the guests.)

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've lead the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
