Polis, Cyprus villa & hotel accommodation
Combining hotel and villa accommodation it is a truly unique holiday retreat which was created and operates in a way which is, above all, respectful and considerate to nature. Set on a stunning location right on a very long stretch of sandy beach and surrounded by beautiful Mediterranean orchards and gardens it offers a majestic view of the Polis Bay and the Akamas peninsula nature reserve.
Away from the noise of traffic and the activity of the town, while at the same time being a 15-minute walk from the centre of Polis, which boasts a variety of picturesque coffee shops and tavernas, it promises a peaceful and relaxing stay close to nature.
The small town of Polis is located at the north-west end of the island of Cyprus, right at the centre of a beautiful bay and on the edge of the Akamas peninsula nature reserve. An important kingdom in ancient times, it now offers a unique combination of unspoilt sandy beaches, crystal clear waters, a beautiful countryside with a very rich wildlife, a very mild climate and the most hospitable and welcoming people.
The hotel possesses sixty elegantly decorated twin and double bedrooms in the main building or in the garden wings. Forty of the rooms have a view of the sea and twenty have a view of the Pafos mountains. Each of the five luxurious villas has its own swimming pool and three twin bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms

Just a few kilometres away from the hotel, figuring prominently over the horizon, is the Akamas peninsula nature reserve, an area of great natural interest and with several walking trails. Depending on the season, the hotel organises guided walks to the Akamas as well as lectures and slide shows on various aspects of the nature of Cyprus.
The immediate surrounding area is equally rich in wildlife. During the summer months guests will notice along the beach the numerous turtle nests, which are monitored and protected by a local conservation centre as well as by hotel staff, while the hedges surrounding the hotel plantations are full of nesting birds. The low profile design of the hotel buildings is part of the effort of not imposing upon the surrounding environment. Less visible but equally important are the water and energy saving practices. The orange groves and the rose, herb and vegetable gardens are irrigated from the hotel's own well, which also provides the water for the lavatories thus saving valuable drinking water. All wastewater is treated in a sophisticated biological station and solar panels provide part of the energy for heating the water. All lights and air-conditioning in the bedrooms will go off when the key holder is removed from the slot thus avoiding the waste of energy while the guests are away. The air-conditioning will also go off if the balcony glass doors are not well shut. The hotel restaurant specialises in traditional Cypriot dishes and healthy diet meals. Locally grown products including hotel-grown vegetables are used extensively. The bar among others serves freshly squeezed juices as well as a variety of herbal teas both of which are prepared from the fruit and herbs grown in the hotel gardens. |
Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people. We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel. 'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left). We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays. We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism. This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards. |

The villas are simply furnished but comfortable. We breakfasted on the first floor roof terrace of the villa overlooking the hotel’s gardens, and relaxed by the sunny private pool secluded from our neighbours by tall vegetation. (read full review)

It was all that I expected it to be, and more besides! The hotel was peaceful and quiet, with no noisy discos or other entertainment, (which I don't like), and the food was good too ~ lots of it being from their own organic gardens. (read full review)

This hotel is a wonderfully peaceful and relaxing place to stay. It's also the only hotel I've ever stayed in where there were always enough sun-beds to go round. Friendly staff, good food, pleasant rooms with wonderful views. (read full review)

We did really enjoy the holiday - it was both relaxing and refreshing. The hotel that I found through you was, we think - probably the best hotel in its category; firstly because it grew and used seasonal vegetables and fruit; secondly, because it was largely quiet and peaceful and lastly, but not least, because of its location. The views from the hotel front were great - and we were close to the Akamas Peninsula, excellent walking country. Overall we had an excellent holiday, especially as the weather was pretty good for January. We would be happy to go again.
