description
A family run complex set in a beautiful hillside landscape with striking panoramic sea views.

This family hotel is a small apartments complex –– licensed by the Greece National Tourist Organisation. Its location is perfect for those who like walking in nature early in the day, breathing the fresh air, listening to the sound of the birds or the waves at the beach. Vatera is a typical Greek island seaside hamlet with very nice fish tavernas and a close-knit community friendly and caring to its visitors. Its sandy beach is 10 km long and 40 feet wide with the fishing harbour of Agios Focas just 5 min. away.

Also 4 km away from the traditional village of Vrisa  the palaeondological fossils of 2 million years ago (excavated at Vatera), are exhibited.

The nearest town is Polichnitos (10 minutes away), the capital Mytilini town and port (50 minutes ) & Mytilini Airport (60 minutes ). Thus it is very well situated offering easy access to all travellers wishing to visit other destinations in Lesvos, the rest of Greece (mainland and islands) and Turkey.

The complex was built 20 years ago and it has been a favourite destination for singles, couples and families over the years as independent travellers or in groups. It is located at a small incline, very near the beach (130 m) and close to all the amenities (shops, bars and tavernas). It has its own secluded garden/ planted areas and terraces offering peace and privacy to its occupants - each apartment has it own sea view balcony. The ground floor ones have their own patio.

All the apartments and generally the property benefit from panoramic sea views, which the location guarantees. However if walking uphill is a problem, then sadly you have to miss the views and our company! We don’t claim to be perfect but we can offer you our personal attention and honest representation of our corner of the Planet. Feel free to ask specific questions before your booking is confirmed, we are very happy to reply to them. The Complex consists of:

how this holiday makes a difference
We own and run this family hotel. Tourism development in our locality had a positive impact on the local economy. It has broadened the horizons of the locals thus giving them the incentive to stay around and not to go off to Mainland Greece to seek employment.

It also encourages local people to take an interest, develop the nature trails and work on the land; it gives them a greater pride in the countryside around the village while at the same time giving them ideas on how they can demonstrate their skills, as well as giving them the ability to mix with people from many walks of life and from all over the world.

The local community is central to our success in supporting our business and help in servicing the needs of our clients. We employ local people, use local suppliers and products. We provide a detailed guide for our guests to make the most of the local area and tavernas. By being successful in our business, we can demonstrate to the world the beauty of the area and enhance our local community with its traditions, customs and values.

We operate our own environmental policy. We encourage guests to use energy efficiently and keep water consumption to a minimum. Lights in communal areas operate on sensors and the water is heated via solar panels (for about 9 months yearly) thus further reducing energy consumption. Vegetable and garden matter is composted and bottles from the bar are returned to the original supplier. We use environmentally friendly cleaning products.

Apart from our small orchard fronting the property we have landscaped one quarter of our site with recycled local stone creating terraces at the back of the buildings which are productively planted according to local traditions with orange, lemon, apricot, peach, plum, quince nectarine, fig, olive, almond trees, vines and various flowering plants and herbs. Our clients are welcome to use the terraces for gathering fruit when it is available or simply relaxing. We are using natural water resources for irrigation – our own well.

No chemicals are added to the land so the produce is organic. Water is recycled for the garden and waste biologically degrades and soaks away. Our cats are quite friendly and part of the scene, while they roam in the grounds.

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
