description
A 3 bedroom stone house with dramatic mountain and valley views, sleeping 2 – 8 guests.
A wild terraced garden, with hundred year- old fig trees, an ancient grapevine, and some romantically overgrown ruins, is the setting for this unique stone and timber house. The owner, Ayhan is an archaeological guide and is committed to conservation in the area so all the materials were chosen to ensure the house was completely integrated within the landscape.
Stone was quarried locally and white pine used for the internal woodwork, while all the furniture has been handmade by local craftsmen.
Extensive terracing makes the most of its hillside position and cooling mountain breezes. There are magnificent vistas in all directions over the rolling hills, and across to distant sea. A lovely pool area and terrace with natural shading under the magnificent, old fig trees and vines, is the perfect place to relax and absorb these wonderful views.
Village life of nearby Bayir continues here as it always has. Local honey, yoghurt, cheese, bread and eggs can be brought to the house, and on the first night, a village lady will deliver a dinner of good country vegetable dishes.
The chalet’s wonderful location and spacious accommodation makes it ideal for a family or a group of friends.
Relax: Swimming pool approx 11m x 3.5m (0.7–1.4m deep), large enclosed gardens, sunbathing terrace, hammock, outside stone oven for barbecues
Walking: This is tempting terrain for walkers, and nature-lovers with numerous mountain trails up to Gök Dag (Sky Mountain). Ayhan, who lives unobtrusively on a neighbouring property, is happy to advise guests who wish to explore the riches of this beautiful area.
Beaches: The pristine, curved beach at Çiftlik, with its small restaurants by the sea, is only a 10 minute drive away and there are numerous other attractive bays and beaches to explore.
Village life: Nearby Bayir continues as it always has. A mini-market and restaurants are a 5 minute drive away.

how this holiday makes a difference
|
Chalet Vista was created by Ayhan which he designed, constructed and furnished himself, taking great care to ensure that the house fitted in entirely with its wild and rugged setting and with minimal impact on the environment.
The location of the house was an important factor - it sits on side of a hill and benefits from the cooling “Meltem” breezes, which combined with the locally quarried stone walls and floors renders air conditioning unnecessary even in the height of summer. The entrance of the house is dominated by massive, fig trees, the oldest being 110 years, visitors are welcome to pick the abundant fruits. The pool terrace is shaded by a 70 year old grape vine-with an excellent grape crop in summer months. In addition to this the house has its own organic kitchen garden, chickens with free range eggs, village bread, hand churned butter, fresh milk and cheese all organically produce are provided for guests and the first night meal is a organic - vegetarian meal with side dishes. Eco- friendly practices include: Ayhan by profession is an archaeological guide, a keen conservationist and hiker and enjoys sharing his enthusiasm and knowledge of the area of outstanding natural beauty which is ideal for walkers with the nearby Gok Dag or Sky Mountain. Kestrels, Golden Orioles and eagles circle by day and the scoops owl can be heard at night. There are 9 forest hotpots of Turkey listed in the priority forest areas of Europe- in terms of richness in biodiversity and under serious threat- that need to be protected. One of which is Datca Peninsula and Bozburun. This list was prepared within the context of "Gifts to the Earth" by WWF International. The peninsula is protected as a Specially Protected Area. A financial contribution is made per passenger booked to local conservation charities, and we also encourage our customers to offset the carbon emissions of their flights. |
Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people. We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel. 'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left). We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've lead the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays. We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism. This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards. |
