description
We have a 1,100 acre organic agricultural estate and cultural center near Siena, part of the Riserva Naturale Alto Merse, and a unique historical property and multicultural community. We offer B&B and self catering Tuscany farmstay accommodation - the estate produces organic wine, olive oil, vegetables, fruit, honey, grains, and pasta, and serves dinner nightly to residents and guests if desired.

Our Tuscany farmstay is located 1 hour from Florence and 45 minutes from San Gimignano, this is an ideal base for exploring the Tuscan countryside. Or stay on the property and relax by the pool, take a hike, or read on the terrace.

Palazze Torre , from €1085 - €1,400 /week, depending on season (available Apr - Oct), s/c
Palazze Torre(sleeps 6) is named for the original tower that forms the central architectural feature of the house. A covered patio next to our newest vineyard allows for dining al fresco in the warmer months.

Inside, stone steps lead up to the living area - a living room with a fireplace, and a large kitchen with a beautiful marble sink form the nucleus of the house. A bedroom off the kitchen has a view across the vineyards and down the Ricausa valley towards Castiglione Che Dio Sol Sa (The Castle that Only God Knows), a favorite hiking destination. Down a hallway from the living room, a large bathroom with full tub/shower looks out over the quiet courtyard. At the end of the hall, a spacious bedroom has a writing desk, double bed, bureau and armoire. A view of the Castello makes for a lovely early morning sight out the window.

The stairs up from the living room lead to a top floor bedroom and a second bathroom, this one with a shower. The washing machine is located on the first floor in a section of the original stables that was renovated to house the utilities. Palazze Torre has woodstoves and a fireplace, and the eat-in kitchen is stocked with all the items needed to make and serve meals.

Casa Dami , from €800 - €1700 /week, depending on season (available year round), s/c
Casa Dami (sleeps 6) is a terrific house for families. Adjacent to Casa del Fantino and near the pool, guest office, dining room, and Spannocchia shop, Casa Dami is near enough to the action of the Castello courtyard that guests feel like they are part of the action, but it also has beautiful views of the surrounding property, and the inside seems like an oasis after a busy day of exploring Tuscany.

A spacious living room with a large fireplace and adjoining dining room opens into a smaller study perfect for poring over maps and planning day trips. The eat-in kitchen has a fantastic view of the Elsa river valley, and its proximity to the front door makes serving dinner on the arched loggia a breeze in the summer. There is also one bedroom and a one full bath with shower on the first floor. The second floor has two bedrooms, one with a lovely view of the estate and one with a view of the Fattoria courtyard. A large bathroom with a full tub/shower looks out over the olive orchard below the house.

A small utility nook upstairs holds the washing machine and cleaning supplies. Casi Dami has central gas heating and the kitchen is stocked with all the items needed to make and serve meals.

how this holiday makes a difference
We are committed to being a good steward of the land and the surrounding community. By farming organically, recycling, using renewable resources for utility needs when possible, and encouraging our guests to be conscious of their resource usage, we protect our land from non-sustainable use.

By supporting local artisanal producers, providing a supportive workplace for our employees, and encouraging our guests to be sensitive to local culture, and opening our property for public use on hiking trails, our Tuscany farmstay benefits the local community in many ways that traditional hotels are not able to.

We aspire to be a vacation destination that provides an opportunity for guests to be engaged, to participate in our community, to learn about sustainability, and take that knowledge home and apply it to their own community.

Traditional architecture plays an important role in the aesthetic of the Estate. Guests staying in these six-person farmhouses will appreciate the traditional vernacular tower in Palazze Torre, as well as the gracefully arched loggia of Casa Dami. In addition to preserving traditional architectural features, we have also tried to update our houses with modern energy and resource-saving tools from compact fluorescent bulbs, to gray-water recycling systems and rainwater catchment systems that store water from our many terracotta rooves for use in our organic garden vegetable garden.

Guests are also encouraged to recycle paper, metal, and glass in our recycling room and to collect their own compost and add it to our compost heap or help us feed the pigs. In this way, despite our ebbing and flowing guest population, we do not have mountains of trash going to local landfills.

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've lead the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
