description
Situated on the edge of the beautiful and historic town of Montefrio you will find this a B&B with that little bit extra. With 4 en-suite rooms that have been tastefully decorated and furnished to a very high standard.
Our accommodation is perfect for those who wish to get away from life's frantic pace and enjoy a bit of real Spain. Montefrio itself is a fantastic little town with hundreds of years of history and tradition which thankfully has been overlooked by mainstream tourism.
The town itself has a population around 8000 and the mainstay of the local economy is the production of high quality olives and olive oil. The people of Montefrio are very proud of their town and treat newcomers as friends with a welcoming smile that is sadly lacking in todays society to much.
What makes us a B&B with that little bit extra is the attention to detail. From the truly comfortable beds to providing detailed information about the various archaeological sites surrounding the town.
Home cooked food is available to suit individual customers tastes, by finding your likes and dislikes we can build menus that are exactly what you want to eat so whether you are an egg and chips person or you want a 6 course meal you are not going to be disappointed.
If you're visiting Andalucia, Sevilla, Cordoba, Granada etc why not spend a few days with us and get out of the city's and chill out.
The B&B is only 40 minutes from Granada and 80 minutes from Malaga, so while you are not totally removed from civilization you are far enough away to forget about it for a while.
Family friendly: We have a larger than average room that can easily be used as a family room ,and can consult with customers in advance on any special foods etc needed for our younger guests. We have a small play area outside and a swimming pool that keeps the kids going and happily tires them out giving parents some time to themselves.
Baby friendly: We provide a cot and high chair for our youngest customers and again can consult on any foods etc that you may wish. We also have a small selection of brand name medicines in case they get poorly.
Ski the Sierra Nevada
We are situated just one hour from the Sierra Nevada. This is a world famous ski complex with 59 slopes to suit ski fans of all levels. What makes our accommodation an exellent choice for the Sierra Nevada is that you can join the other ski fans any time you want or if you wish you can easily reach some of the other fanastic areas of Granada. At the end of the day you can come back to a lovely home cooked meal and sit down around our log fire and exchange storys of the days skiing adventures. Another good thing is the price with a 15% discount on bookings in January till March you can help save the earth without it costing you the earth!

how to find us
We are on the road that links Montefrio with Alcala la Real (A335). Granada airport is only 40 minutes away and Malaga airport is 80 minutes awaytravellers' tales
The food was the most memorable. After asking our wants and needs Scott built menus that quite frankly blew us away. I would advise anyone to go for "el sabor de colores" wich was a custom built seven course menu!!! (more)

how this holiday makes a difference
|
We buy our vegetables at the local market every Monday. We sell locally produced goods from our home, from cheese from the local factory to handmade baskets made by an old man that we chanced upon near the market one day (his face was a picture the day we bought his entire stock when he was hoping to sell us one basket). We always rave to people about how good the local products are and people think the montefrio olive oil is a fantastic prsent to take home to family and friends.
We believe that it is the little things that make all the difference, from such simple things as installing low energy lamps and making sure all domestic appliances are of the lowest energy outputs. The house is an existing building that we have refurbished and is built to a traditional Spanish style with three feet thick walls that helps keep the outside temperature outside, so their is no need for air conditioning and in the winter we have a log burning fire, the logs that we use are from the olive trees that are pruned every year at the end of olive season by the local farmers they take these cuttings away and dry them out over summer and are ready to use by winter, this is a practise that both helps the trees and the local farmers and has ben practised for hundreds of years. The property's water is not mains fed so it was important for us to fit such things as double flush toilets and special water saving showers domestic appliances. We believe that it is the little things that make all the difference, such as installing low energy lamps and making sure all domestic appliances are of the lowest energy outputs. We do not have brochures, relying instead on the internet and word of mouth, helping us keep damage and costs down. Even though we are only a small business we do our best to help the local economy by allowing the local farmers to farm our olive trees without any charge and sourcing our food, etc locally. Montefrio is almost self sustainable as a town, producing some fantastic food. |
Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people. We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel. 'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left). We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays. We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism. This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards. |
