how this holiday makes a difference
|
More than just an hotel, we offers a new way of travelling, while taking its time and participating in the protection of the Berber culture in the High Atlas of Morrocco. When staying at here, you participate in maintaining life in the mountainous regions.
In the Bougmez Valley, families have kept most of their traditions, tamazigh language, cultural patrimonial and architecture, and we want to help them to preserve this traditions for the coming generations. The Bougmez Valley is an architectural treasure, thanks to the patriarchal houses called “tigherms” and all the small houses made of adobe that remain in most villages. To preserve this way of building, we have designed the Casbah following the model of a “tigherm”, adding the necessary comfort and environment-friendly elements. This will promote the traditional way of building, showing that adobe is a real alternative to concrete. By developing an environment-friendly accommodation, we act for the prosperity of the valley and provides new revenues to the local communities, through direct and indirect jobs. Our staff is employed on a local basis, we use mostly local products to cook all meals, and develop partnerships with local families, to offer guests the opportunity to experience the Berber way of life while benefiting the social welfare in the valley. By promoting environmentally responsible practices, we work for the preservation of the Bougmez Valley, contributing to the valorisation of their natural patrimonial. We act actively for the sustainability of the Bougmez Valley by providing work, directly and indirectly to the inhabitants of the surrounding villages, protecting the environment by various actions (waste management, using clean “energy”, encouraging environment-friendly practices). |
Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people. We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel. 'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left). We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays. We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism. This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards. |
