description
Our Pyrenees gite provides a relaxing and comfortable base for families and couples alike. It has been lovingly equipped and furnished using local finds and wonderful vintage textiles. The building started its life as a wool processing workshop, as the wool processing industry in the area died out it was converted into a holiday home and when we found it was rather sorry for itself. We have tried to retain the features that already existed in the house by restoring and repairing where we can whilst bringing the level of comfort very much into the 21st century.

We offer a ‘meal in maison’ service, using local produce much of it grown by ourselves. We can either provide a meal for you to heat and serve yourselves or a table d’hote where you can join us around our wonderfully huge table to enjoy our twist on local specialties. A holiday at our Pyrenees gite can be a get away from it all retreat or a chance to enjoy adventures. We are wonderfully placed to explore the local walking routes and the Haute Languedoc regional park.

Walk ten minutes to the south, east or west and you are immersed in the forest of Beson with all of its stunning scenery, rivers, waterfalls, wildlife and flora. Walk ten minutes to the north and you are in the lovely town of Labastide Rouairoux with its friendly people, shops and restaurants.

travellers' tales
I think we chose well; the gite was just what we wanted, beautifully situated... The landscape was the real asset of the region, thickly wooded slopes, ravines and blue skies.  (more)
rooms, food and facilities
Fully equipped kitchen area, 2 bedrooms, fire place with woodburning stove, ADSL access, TV/DVD/CD player, washing machine, barbeque, garden furniture, loads of books, organically grown produce available.

Family friendly: We are parents ourselves and understand that happy children mean happy adults, and with this in mind we supply age appropriate toys, books and games for the occasional rainy day. A paddling pool for cooling off and other outdoor toys are provided. The environment generally is very child friendly with lots to discover. We have llamas and donkeys that love to be visited by children especially if they have a carrot in hand.

Baby friendly: We like to think that we offer pretty much everything people travelling with tiddlers might need: play pen/travel cot, baby bath, high chair, changing table, baby back pack, baby swing and lots of toys, books and playmats for kicky leg action.

Pet friendly: We’re mostly pet friendly but must be asked in advance.

Walking accommodation: We offer walks for wide variety of abilities. We are happy to individually tailor a walk to your needs. Walks can be from one hour to whole days, even camp-outs for the adventurous. For the most adventurous amongst you we are pleased to offer weekend walks. Spend one or 2 full days walking, with evening barbecues. We can offer you accommodation in our gite or a local Chambre d'Hotes. We provide snacks or picnics, depending on the length of walk. Luxury Champagne picnics to celebrate a special occasion can also be provided.

how this holiday makes a difference
We were the first family with children to move into our village for over twenty years and are active members of our community, by being so we play an albeit small part in keeping the community alive. By using local tradesmen and shopping locally we contribute to the local economy. When buying equipment for our Pyrenees gite we buy locally.

When looking at the history of our town we wanted to carry on traditions that had died out and also utilise the resources that exist here. As this was an important wool producing area we decided to farm llamas. As our herd increases we will be able to use the one remaining wool spinning factory here and thus hopefully contribute to our community even more. As the industry here declined the town has attempted to promote tourism using the strengths of this beautiful place. Placed on a little walked part of the GR-7 we use our llamas as pack animals taking people on guided walks into the mountains.

On our walks we serve as unofficial litter pickers, there's not much but it's so sad to find bits of plastic in the woods and we always bring it home with us. We attend the local carnival and any other local events with our llamas as part of our community...It's been lovely over the years to become part of these events and to overhear people talking about 'our llamas' and confidently telling outsiders all about llamas even if what they say is not always accurate...

In times when we have excess produce from our gardens we quite often do midnight dumps in our village leaving selections of vegetables on the doorsteps of neighbours who can no longer maintain gardens themselves (this is fun!). We adhere to the principles of reduce/reuse/recycle wherever and whenever we can both in our own lives and in the management of our accommodation.

Pyrenees giteWe have woodland that we manage both to maintain the wildlife living there and also to provide a sustainable fuel source for heating.

Our Pyrenees gite was never designed as a house for full time living although you will find it very comfortable for your holiday this avoids the issue of reducing accommodation that might otherwise be occupied by a local family.

We take every opportunity we can to promote this area, we are passionate about the area and the people who live here this is because it is just fantastic. By providing very comprehensive information on local facilities we hope that we can persuade you to shop, eat and play here.

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
