It was wonderful! My favourite part was the verandah at night with the pond providing a lovely noisy backdrop (lots of frogs and nocturnal noises!). (more)

We are the only inland tourism operator in southern NSW to have achieved Nature Tourism certification by EcoTourism Australia and have won the NSW Tourism Award again this year.
Our goal at this Kangaroo Valley accommodation is to minimise the negative impacts of our business and to improve the property’s environment. After only 12 months of regeneration, we now have several wombats, echidnas, platypus and a goanna living by our creek. We expect this trend to continue and offer future guests the rare opportunity to enjoy a break with a tourism business which is returning much of the property to its original environment. We have developed an Environmental Impact Plan and apply energy saving strategies to our guest accommodation. We are self sufficient in water and waste water treatment. Have minimised waste, follow biodiversity conservation and have planted over 700 native trees. The establishment of a bird sanctuary, minimal noise and lighting disturbance strategies have also been launched -critical for Australia’s nocturnal wildlife. We make all our own aromatherapy toiletries and spa treats to heighten our guest’s experience and understanding of the “power of plants” using all natural recipes many of which includes Australian essential oils. Our business donates funds to local environmental groups including endangered animals and wildlife care. We are active members of the local tourist association and have produced information guides to further enhance visitor experience and awareness of the environment. We have also devoted our time to the Pioneer Museum Park, in the village, which is the only exhibit of early settler life in the greater Sydney metropolitan region. Where we can we only buy local produce and employ local trades person. We are also now operating as a carbon neutral business. We use only 100% renewable green energy, select carbon neutral fire wood from certified state forests supplies, implement a waste management policy to maximise efficiencies and have introduced our own carbon offset programme. We were also the first tourism operator in NSW to have successfully completed the accreditation programme Climate Action to tackle the affects of climate change. This includes a cut in energy use by over 40%, using only 100% Accredited Green renewable energy and cutting landfill waste by 20%. We have also received Green Star Accreditation. Green STAR Accreditation is an additional endorsement to our current STAR rating. Green STAR Accreditation gives special recognition that we are responsible and committed to reducing the environmental impacts of our business. ![]() |
Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people. We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel. 'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left). We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays. We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism. This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards. |
