description
Our Argentina horse riding accommodation is set in a beautiful reserve at the top of the Cordoba hills in the center of Argentina. The estancia dates from 1574 when breeding mules for the silver mines in Peru was the principal activity. Today it is an idyllic retreat for horsemen and nature lovers.
This organic working farm breeds Aberdeen-Angus cattle and Paso Peruano horses. It has been in the same Anglo Argentina family for four generations and sets the highest standards of accommodation, combining the pleasures of estancia life with exceptional riding. The owners have a passion for conservation and the preservation of the environment. They cherish the farms “spring water” and use wind and solar energy.
Home rides, long-distance pack trips, polo, bird watching, walking, assisting the gauchos with cattle or simply relaxing by the pool are some of the many activities.
All riding abilities can be catered for. The riding terrain is exciting, ranging from steep rocky paths down tree-studded gullies, to open, grassy hilltops. We are a year round destination known for its fabulous horses and animal welfare. "The adventure allows you to experience the best traditions of Argentina while not abandoning all creature comforts.”
Resident Polo Professional
We are delighted to welcome Juan Manuel Pizarro, ‘Humi’ to our full-time team as horse manager and resident polo professional. Like many Argentine polo players, Humi has spent a lifetime around horses. He has worked both in England and more latterly in Kenya as yard manager pursuing his passion for both polo and horses in general. On the birth of his young son, Humi returned home with his family to the Cordoba hills, where he started working with us in 2006 providing guest tuition during our polo-focused weeks.

Organic farming
We believe in total organic farming. We do not use any growth hormones, pesticides, insecticides or chemical fertilizers. We are careful not to overgraze and keep the stocking rate to a minimum level that allows the natural grasses to regenerate. The cattle and horses are free range and the cattle eat back certain paddocks to build natural fire breaks in the winter. We plant new fruit trees every year, providing shade for cattle, and have an organic vegetable garden. Our fertilizers are 100% natural manure or mulch.
how this holiday makes a difference
At our Argentina horse riding accommodation we are restoring the historic buildings located throughout the estancia, taking care to restore them in sympathy with the original construction where possible. 90% of our energy is naturally produced (wind or solar generated). We use low energy bulbs and ask guests to use electricity sparingly. Grey water is used for watering the garden. All metal and bottles are recycled. At our Argentina horse riding accommodation we farm organically and don’t use growth hormones, pesticides, insecticides or chemical fertilizers. Our cattle, horses and chickens are free range. Shooting is banned, encouraging condors, vultures, foxes, etc. Food is sourced locally (or home grown) and our Chef’s mission statement is to work with the food community to celebrate local and regional foods and foster a more sustainable food supply. Our employees are all local and all live on the farm and are very well cared for. Some of the staff have been with us for three generations. Wages are generous and paid on time, and staff are given training. The horses are often bred locally and all purchases are local. The farm supports the local school, working on improvements including the water works, building an oven, providing cooking pots and pans, first aid kits and a solar energy system. Old horse shoes are turned into a game that can be purchased by guests, with profits going to the local school. |
Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people. We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel. 'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left). We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays. We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism. This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards. |
