introduction to Kent countryside B&B nr Faversham

This elegant, early Georgian Listed farmhouse is on a traditional Kentish working farm, situated amidst hop gardens, paddocks & orchards, with easy access to the many attractions the area has to offer.Whether you come for a short break to take life at a more leisurely pace, or a longer stay to explore the delights of the Kent countryside and shoreline, we have something for everyone.

We try to offer a country house experience, yet always being aware of the impact on our surroundings, which is why we joined the Green Tourism Scheme. We use an extensive range of home grown and local, seasonal produce for delicious and varied breakfasts. We always cater for vegetarians and other diets with advance notice.

Situated as it is between London and the Continent, Kent was historically a very important county. It has therefore many great castles, houses and gardens. Nearby are the mediaeval town of Faversham and historic city of Canterbury. Equally, the diverse countryside and shorelines provide a haven for many indigenous and migratory birds. The chalk hills of the Kent Downs are resplendent with wild flowers including orchids especially in spring and early summer.

You can take some wonderful walks locally and from Faversham; or take the train to ramble on selected walks through the Stour Valley. Being a hop growing county, you will always find a good inn to provide you with refreshment, probably from our own Shepherd Neame brewery in Faversham, the oldest independent brewer in the country.

how this holiday makes a difference
Wildlife, B&B near FavershamWe are committed to providing a good quality service whilst also minimising the environmental impact of our activities. We have been awarded the Green Tourism Business Scheme Silver Award. This scheme provides accreditation and encouragement for tourism businesses to reduce the environmental impact of their activities. By encouraging sustainable practices it ensures the continued enjoyment of the environment of England and Kent for future generations. As farmers we are very aware of our environment. As we have orchards and hop gardens, we encourage beneficial insects and other wildlife with hedgerows and grass strips between the trees.

In the house we encourage all forms of re-cycling and composting. Whenever possible we use home grown and local seasonal produce. Eggs come from our own hens and summer fruits are conserved for winter use. All jams are homemade.

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
