how this holiday makes a difference
We encourage guests to support local businesses and restaurants which rely heavily upon tourism. We have plenty of leaflets for guests and encourage them to find activities within the local community. We recommend activities for them which help support the local communities. We also support the community in by employing local staff. We employ 2 lovely therapists who we discovered when we moved here.

We try to minimize our energy use by using energy efficiency light bulbs where appropriate. We do not leave electrical appliances switched on needlessly or on standby and encourage guests to follow our example. We turn off unwanted lights and close doors to contain heat energy and ask guests to do the same. We do not change bedlinen or towels unnecessarily. We ask guests to inform us when they require clean towels. This helps to cut down on energy consumption.

We use cleaning products that are animal-friendly and biodegradable. Although we have a small garden we do not treat it with pesticides of any nature and have a small natural area at the top, in which a local pheasant enjoys having his afternoon snooze.

We recycle cans, paper and glass. We are in the process of obtaining a compost bin and hope this will further enable us to cut down on waste going to landfill sites. Some waste is recycled in the recyclable garden waste bin collected by the community refuse collectors. We ask guests to recycle their waste as much as possible. We check the bins in the bedroom everyday and put the appropriate recyclable material aside.

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've lead the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
