introduction to Crieff accommodation in Perthshire

The owners offer a real family welcome to their home, with their informal and friendly approach to life. Their commitment to the environment and ethics has been incorporated into their B&B successfully, and has been acknowledged by recently achieving a strong Silver Award from the Green Tourism Business Scheme on the first attempt.

The Crieff accommodation provided is of a high standard, with many quirky features which reflect their lifestyle, their extensive travels and creativity. David, who has until recently been a part-time chef at Gleneagles Hotel, offers a great breakfast, and evening meals by arrangement.

The Crieff accommodation is located in the centre of Crieff, so guests can easily access the variety of local shops and restaurants without the use of a car. There is a lovely variety of local shops, from whisky (including the local Glenturret whisky) & shortbread, to crafts and clothing (fair trade even!). There is a monthly Country Market, on the second Saturday of the month throughout the summer, promoting local and Scottish produce and gifts. The ‘great outdoors’ is just on our doorstep as the town is only small. Cycling, hill walking, fishing and horse riding are all available in the area. There is an outdoors festival, the Crieff & Strathearn Drovers’ Tryst on the second week of October.
special things to do and see here
Residential classes: By linking up with friends who do the tutoring, we are able to offer a variety of residential classes. These vary from mosaic – both indoors and outdoors – to Textile Illuminations (including batik on reclaimed bedroom linens, fabric printing, machine stitching & embroidery); photography; mushroom and wild plant foraging and guided hill-walking. Participants can either come on their own and meet new people, or come with a partner (who may choose not to participate) or with friends. If a group of 6 or more friends wish to come to learn a new skill, this may be possible to arrange given sufficient notice.

10-17 Oct Crieff & Strathearn Drovers’ Tryst: We are one of the coordinators of the Crieff & Strathearn Drovers’ Tryst, and outdoors festival which gets bigger and better year on year, broadening the range of activities available throughout the week. There is a more diverse selection of walks, the ‘Hairy Coo Mountain Bike Challenge’ and fun race, additional activities to get you enjoying Perthshire’s autumnal landscape and a raft of afternoon and evening entertainment. Please contact us for more details.

rooms, food and facilities
Double bedroom, Perthshire B&BWe have four rooms which we offer as B&B accommodation. All rooms are en suite or have a private bathroom adjacent. All our rooms blend Victorian architecture with a contemporary style.

They have an eclectic mix of antique and new furniture and original art work on the walls. All the rooms have tea & coffee facilities and a television. Our largest room has views of the Grampian mountains beyond.

We have a guests lounge, available throughout the day. There are a variety of books and board games for use by the guests. It has a log fire which can be lit on request for a cosy evening in.

Twin room, B&B PerthshireGuests are welcome to use the garden, though it is also used by us and our two children – so it may not be the quietest place to be! However, we are keen gardeners and have some interesting plants and two rabbits!

Where possible, we aim to make your stay with us the best that it can possibly be. We can lend you books, suggest a days itinerary, or give you an insight to living in Scotland.

We received a Special Commendation from the Glenturret Distillery Award for exceeding customer expectations. We operate a no-smoking policy, but benches with an ashtray are provided outside for those who chose to smoke.

Lounge, B&B Perthshire Cycling & walking friendly: Maps and walking books are available to borrow. We have a drying room, and outside lines which can be used by guests and muddy boots can be left either in the laundry room or at the front door lobby. We offer a lockable shed for storing your own bikes, or alternatively know where you can hire bikes from. Horse riding, golf and fishing are also available in the area.

Family friendly: We are very child friendly, having two children of our own. We have a bed-settee in one room, or z-beds available for the other rooms, a travel cot and a high chair. There is a range of toys, books and jigsaws available.

Baby friendly: We have a travel cot and high chair; and are happy to refrigerate milk, baby food etc, and to heat up at breakfast, or allow access to our kitchen to heat up food.
how to find us
By car: From Perth, take the A85 west. From Stirling take the A9 then the A822 north. From Crianlarich and Loch Lomond National Park, take the A85 East. From Inverness and Pitlochry, take the A822 south. Once in Crieff, we are located just off the A85.

By bus: From Perth, Bus number 15 direct and hourly during the day. From Stirling, Bus number 47.

By train: There are train stations at Perth and Dunblane using the ScotRail services. GNER trains from London Kings Cross also stop at Gleneagles train station, only a short taxi ride from Crieff.
how this holiday makes a difference
In the house we use mostly low-energy light bulbs, control our heat throughout the house to avoid unnecessary waste, minimise water waste by providing showers and the use of hippos in the cisterns and use energy efficient appliances where applicable. We provide information to our guests, both in the bedroom pack and on our website, about our environmental policy and how they can help (such as leaving towels to be changed in the showers, leaving recyclable products outside of the bedroom bin so that it can go into our recyclable bin to name but a few). We also provide information about carbon off-set, as we are aware that most visitors need to use a car to get to us.

Where possible our ingredients are locally sourced. Our sausages are specially made by our local butcher, eggs from the shop around the corner rather than from the supermarket etc. Our fruit, vegetables and herbs from the garden are grown without pesticides and are used where possible. Katy makes jams from local ingredients, and also home-made marmalade. We also feature a lot of local crafts in our home, from stained glass windows to copper headboards. Katy is also the Market Manager for a monthly market which takes place in Crieff from April to October, where she fully supports local food producers and local craftspeople. We offer Café Direct coffee and tea, both at breakfast and in the bedrooms, and we are increasingly using other fair trade ingredients as they become more available.

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
