Wester Ross accommodation
With over 13 hectares on the shores of Little Loch Broom we have the space to offer peaceful Wester Ross accommodation for every occasion and many of our guests return year after year.
Choose our small 1½ storey traditional croft cottage (sleeps 4) with birch floors and walls, mahogany stairs, aluminium worktops, a cozy traditional room layout with period furnishings, mahogany sash windows, gas lighting, peat stove, solid fuel range cooking and feather duvets and pillows.
Or a bed in our Bothy, Gaelic for simple cottage or refuge, a simply converted stone barn which offers basic accommodation for 6-12 persons, groups, and families.
Or why not try our small pop top caravan which sleeps 2 adults in comfort and 2 kids at a squeeze on permanent bunks. And we've also got a small friendly and very quiet lochshore campsite for a maximum of 12 tents only (but usually fewer) and 3 caravans with prior booking essential.
Flora & fauna: Wild feral goat herds, porpoises, seals, otters, slow worms, mountain hare, pine martins, foxes and red deer visit us regularly and a variety of birds including golden and white tailed sea eagles, buzzards, and ptarmigans can be found nearby. Many wild flowers including several orchids, saxifrages, butterwort, rose root, bog asphodel, cotton grass, Alpine Lady's mantle, club mosses, Sundews, juniper and many more are here in abundance. Full botanical and twitcher lists prepared by our guests are available to help your search.
Water sports: Little Loch Broom can also be explored by boat, kayaks, inflatables and sailing boats are available for hire to residents subject to experience, weather & security but at their own risk, who can explore and fish from the security of the loch. To venture far into the Minch and explore the Summer Isles, Ullapool, Gruinyard and beyond local charters can be arranged.
Bikes, Kites & Blokarks: We have acquired a few "quiet" toys on trial in case you get bored or fancy a change. Basic instruction given then you are on your own and helmets/protective clothing are provided. These are dangerous sports, you will not be insured by us so take care and children under 14 must be supervised at all times.
Day Trips: This Wester Ross accommodation is an ideal base from where to explore this remote corner of Scotland. You can discover local towns, museums, sandy beaches, gardens etc. and there are leisure centres & golf courses within reach.
Art: Many come here just to draw and paint. Inspiration can be found in the many local atrists studios and galleries.
Archaeology & geology: The estate has had a full archeological survey done. Evidence of ancient settlements, vikings, clearances can be clearly seen here. Knockan Crag in nearby Assynt clearly charts Scotlands journey from the South Pole - surrounded by some of the oldest rocks in the world.
Geneology: A Mackenzie or other family from around here? Ullapool museum can help you.

how this holiday makes a difference
We provide a market for local croft based activity and we are an active member in Badrallach crofting township development plan. We have undertaken as many environmentally responsible activities as possible. We grow our own food organically and most other products are sourced locally. We recycle, we have had an energy audit on the property and we encourage our guests to enjoy locality without travel by car by providing bikes, boats, kayaks, blokarts etc. We do own a 4x4 but we try to minimise its use and do find it essential during extreme weather and for emergency community help. |
Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people. We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel. 'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left). We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays. We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism. This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards. |
