description
Discover the cosy atmosphere of a peaceful mountain retreat in the heart a Berber village within less than an hours drive from the international airport and vibrant city of Marrakech. This kasbah is typical of the traditional stone and rammed-earth dwellings of Berber villages, constructed in several terraced stone stories using ancient, traditional methods and is nestled in the Atlas Mountains, blending perfectly into its natural surroundings.

During the warmer months, meals can be served outside on one of the roof terraces. The local flavors of delicious home cooked Moroccan meals, carefully prepared by Rachida, can also be enjoyed around a log fire in the candlelit Berber sitting room. This cozy communal area is also the perfect place to relax with a glass of mint tea whilst choosing from one of several board games.

This is an ideal base for walking and other outdoor activities. Guides, mules and packed lunches can be organized on request. The traditional Hammam is the perfect way to end the day! The warm and very friendly welcome Jacqueline, Rachida, Mohamed and the rest of the team offer to all of their guests is a key ingredient to what makes this Kasbah an extra special place.

  • how this holiday makes a difference
Scenery, Guest house MoroccoThis Kasbah was built by local workers. Apart from the owner, the staff is from the local village. All of our supplies (food, interiors etc) are bought from the local village. Local mules can be hired. We are soon to set up a rug making workshop with women from the local community. Medicine and clothes are collected and distributed to the local community. The supplies are sent mostly by clients who have visited us. We have installed a septic tank in the village and are part of the “Tidy village operation”. We organize monthly rubbish collection sessions with the village children to keep the surroundings clean.

We contributed to the creation of a 2nd water basin and we have energy efficient light bulbs, turn off lights, use candlelight and fireplaces for heating. We built a collector for mountain sources water. Our garden is organic and organic waste is composted and fed to the animals.

We have created a local grocery shop. We first renovated the neighbour’s house and fixed a room for groceries. We purchase a basic grocery stock and leave it up to him to keep up with it all. It enables older people to be able to buy basic needs close by and thus avoid walking to down to the next village.

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
