description
This B&B is located a mile from the Atlantic in a spectacular part of North Cornwall.
The UK’s first certified organic B&B with 4 luxury suites, in our beautifully restored Victorian house and converted coach house, set in a 5 acre organic holding on which we grow all our own fresh produce.
Delicious evening meals are provided using seasonal, home grown, organic ingredients; freshly picked and simply but carefully prepared. We are licensed and have an excellent selection of organic wines, beers and spirits to complement your meal.
The small bustling town of Bude is five miles away and many popular destinations such as Hartland, Clovelly, Padstow, The Eden Project and Heligan are all less than an hour away. This makes us an excellent base to tour from.
Ideally located for that long weekend break, we are just over an hours drive from Exeter. You can arrive on Friday evening, relax in a luxurious bath and then enjoy a delicious organic meal, prepared by our chef Ian, using freshly picked seasonal produce from the gardens.
The accommodation we offer is also ideal for private 'house' parties of up to 8 people with dinner available in our restaurant, or if you are visiting as 2 couples, you can choose either the main house rooms or the Coach House suites.

travellers' tales
They grow all their own veg and cook according to the season. Other things they source as locally as possible. (more)
rooms, food and facilities
This is a late Victorian property that we have carefully restored provides two beautiful guest bedrooms in the main house. Both are double rooms, spacious and private with luxurious ensuite bathrooms, including roll top baths and separate showers. Original wooden floors and sash windows feature throughout and all rooms are finished with a stylish, pared down elegance.
Antique beds with crisp white bed linen, bathrobes, chocolates and a selection of organic teas and coffees are all designed to make your stay really special.
The Coach House suite is entirely on the ground floor, has easy access throughout, with two single beds, a 'wet room' bathroom and a superb vaulted sitting room. The Stables suite has a first floor double bedroom, with lovely views and a semi open plan bathroom, including a freestanding bath and a separate shower. The large ground floor vaulted sitting room leads out to a private courtyard garden.
how to find us
From the M5 travelling south leave the motorway at Junction 27, taking the right hand exit off of the roundabout signposted to Tiverton and Barnstaple, the A361. Continue on this road past the turning for Tiverton, and carry on to Barnstaple. On the approach to Barnstaple turn left at the mini roundabout signposted Bideford and Bude on the A39. Stay on the A39 all the rest of the way, until 4 miles beyond the turning for Bude.
how this holiday makes a difference
We employ a chef, a gardener, a general assistant and waiting staff, all of whom are local. We also use local tradesman to carry out the house renovations and maintenance e.g. our electrician, plumbers, carpenter, mason, and plasterer are all long established local business people.
We use local businesses for many of our food purchases for example our cream, yoghurt, milk and ice cream come from a nearby organic dairy farm; sausages, bacon, and chicken comes from a farm about 15 miles away. Our local veg box scheme delivers our organic fruit and mushrooms each week, and we grow all the rest of our fresh produce on our own holding. We use local businesses for our furnishings such as chairs, wardrobes, carpets, TVs and DVD.
All of the electricity we use is 100% renewable from Good Energy. The Coach House and Stables accommodation is powered entirely by solar hot water panels and green electric. Three more solar hot water panels are scheduled to be installed on the main house this year. Low energy lightbulbs have been utilised in all appropriate places. We are planning to erect a 20kw grid connect wind turbine in the not to distant future at which point we will be using no fossil fuels at all.
Many of the toilets now have half flushes, towels are only changed at the end of a stay unless requested by our guests and sheets are changed after 4 days in the case of long stays and after each shorter stay. We use Ecover washing powder and fabric conditioner and we do all our own laundry ensuring that we always make up a full load, use only as short a cycle as possible. The soaps, shower wash and shampoo in our guest rooms and for ourselves are all certified organic and the cleaning fluids and toilet ducks are also Ecover products. The towels and bathrobes are all 100% organic purchased from Greenfibres as is all the new bed linen. All of the surface rain water has been directed by means of drainage pipes installed by us to our wildlife pond, which has an inlet and outlet and the running water keeps the pond fresh and clean, for the many species living there, including dragonflies and newts.
Because we grow so much produce ourselves and because we do not buy in pre packaged food and products, we produce only small amounts of packaging wastes. All cardboard is either used as mulch on the garden or stored for later collection for recycling. We also recycle all of our glass, plastic and paper. All green and kitchen waste is composted for reuse on our own gardens.
The whole 5 acres is certified organic and is managed under the Soil Association standards. We encourage bio diversity by leaving long grass and wild margins, these encourage predators which prey on our garden pests. We have established a wild flower meadow to encourage bees and other insects which assist pollination and a wildlife pond which creates a habitat for many different species. All our land is managed using rotations, green manures, and is carefully irrigated using below ground weep pipes to minimise water evaporation and wastage.
Our hedges are allowed to grow and are trimmed only by hand when necessary, this creates better habitats for nesting birds, and we are particularly lucky to have skylarks resident. The old trees in the orchard are also only pruned as required and the old holey branches provide ideal nesting places for blue tits.
