description
This farm offers luxury bed and breakfast and self-catering accommodation, situated near the picturesque village of Godshill on the Isle of Wight. In an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, our organic farm grows cereals and is home to our herd of Aberdeen Angus cattle, North Country mule sheep, rare pedigree Castlemilk Moorit sheep, llamas, chickens, dogs, ponies and horses. No pesticides, herbicides or artificial fertilizers are used.

The farm nestles in the heart of the Isle of Wight's countryside, almost centrally located making it perfect for touring around the many towns, villages and places of interest. Our woodlands host a least six ancient woodland plants. There are red squirrels, badgers, foxes, little owls and buzzards. The ponds are home to swans, kingfishers, various geese, ducks, moorhens and herons.

Activities available include walking, clay pigeon shooting, cycling, fishing, riding, golf, falconry, and llamas.

how this holiday makes a difference
We farm organically and encourage wildlife as much as possible. We have nesting boxes and red squirrel feeding boxes. We consider the farmland to be our garden so very little 'manicuring' is carried out around the properties apart from hedge cutting and grass cutting. The latter is often done by our horses, pet lambs and the geese and ducks in the garden. We do not use pesticides. This reduces our impact on the environment and results in more softness and comfort for our guests.

Visitors are encouraged to participate in the local recycling scheme. Filament light bulbs are gradually being replaced with their low energy equivalent. We promote green transport. Ferry tickets are funded for guests who travel as ferry foot passengers. Marketing material is kept to a minimum - most communication is via website and email with brochures only printed and mailed on request. Recycled products are used where practical. We encourage guests to ask for towels to be laundered when necessary. Wherever possible laundry is line dried to avoid wasting electricity on tumble drying – this also leaves our linen smelling crisp and fresh. We are gradually replacing our bed linen and towels with organic cotton.

Breakfast includes Isle of Wight produced bacon and sausages, our own free range eggs, locally grown & pressed apple juice, Fairtrade tea and coffee, organic milk and butter, organic home made preserves and honey collected from hives on the farm.We support Gift to Nature - an Isle of Wight project to improve the natural environment and restore habitats on the island. We employ local staff.

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
