This hotel will help you find hidden Cornwall and discover why so many are inspired by the natural landscapes of the county year round.

This is our family hotel, cherished and nurtured over 40 years to give our guests memorable holidays on the unique North Cornish coast. Light and airy with spectacular views across North Cornwall's cliffs, our public rooms give you space to sit and relax. The fire adds a comforting touch on crisp winter days while a steaming cappuccino and a homemade cake add the final touch to your welcome. On a summer evening a chance to sit on the bar terrace with a glass of wine and watch the sun set.

During our busy periods, the hotel ballroom plays host to both children and adults. From animal shows to casino nights there is always something for everyone. And the award winning Mawgan Porth beach below the hotel is just perfect for brisk walks, paddling, rock pooling or just soaking up some sunshine for the whole family.

Nearby are fantastic views of Trevose Head to the north and on a clear day as far as St Ives to the south. Around the coast are small towns such as the harbour town of Padstow which is full of colour and life with a number of good quality places to eat and drink. Further a field, the Eden Project and many Cornish gardens offer stunning sights and visual memories.

how this holiday makes a difference
We offer a carbon offsetting scheme for guest's journeys to Cornwall, donating £10 towards planting new trees at the local wood. We have a key card activation system in each room, which ensures that all electrical goods are switched off when leaving the room. All raw kitchen produce is composted. We try to reduce the amount of packaging we get by purchasing in bulk, food items such as jams are not sourced in small jars but in bulk and served in china. Low energy lighting is in place wherever possible in the hotel. We recycle all materials and use recycled stationary.

All staff members receive environmental training on arrival and we have a Green Team who actively encourage other members of staff to do their bit. Eco-friendly cleaning products are used in the rooms, kitchens and public areas. The outdoor pool is heated by solar panels. Public bathrooms have movement activated light sensors and dual flushes. Guest linen and towels are only washed once requested. We have joined the Adopt a Beach scheme with the Marine Conservation Society, promising to clean Mawgan Porth beach 4 times a year and survey what is collected. Guests are informed about our sustainable ethos and practices via marketing media and information area in the hotel.

We have a ‘buy local policy’ throughout wherever possible across all departments. The local Parish News letter and local newspapers are supported through advertising and editorial news each month. Local Bridge club and similar groups are offered discounted events at the hotel. We offer employment opportunities to people from the local community and from international countries.

View, Hotel in CornwallFair Trade tea and coffee is served in restaurants and in bedrooms. Guests can receive information about local attractions, shops, local services etc. at our front desk or in their room folders. Locally sourced hand made soap is offered in the bedrooms instead of small bottles of products. Local charities are supported each year. This year it is Surfers Against Sewage (SAS) and the Cornwall Bird Watching and Preservation Society.

Local events are sponsored and donated to where possible for example the local amateur dramatics productions, Surf Relief Day, a local fire station's and school's fundraising dinners, a young disabled boy and SAS campaigns.

Staff are encouraged to get involved in local events and volunteering e.g. for the regular beach cleans. Our initiatives are communicated to local students, businesses and other hotels at conferences and seminars to inform them of the benefits of being sustainable.

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've lead the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
