description
The comfortable and modern designed guest house is situated at the southern edge of Turriff with the banks of the River Deveron a few steps away in the heart of the Castle Trail, with easy access to Aberdeen and Banff.
The house is rural located in its own grounds and in walking distance to the town centre. The rooms are tastefully decorated and furnished to a modern four star standard. What makes this guest house so special is the warm and friendly welcome from Marianne and Detlef.
The attention to detail such as the beds with canopies should make your stay unique. Cot and highchair are both available on request. Your choice of a cooked Scottish breakfast from best local produce or a lighter Continental breakfast, special diets and early breakfast are available on request. In the evening we serve bar meals in our licensed premise.
The cycle route no. 1 passes near by. In each room you will find a folder of 20 walks in our Formartine area as well as a folder of some cycling maps. We have onsite bicycle hire on request. Although there is no nature walk from the doorstep, you can easily stroll through the near by Turriff show grounds and around the pedal boating pond.
Our lodge is perfectly situated to explore the surrounding area including fishing, the Castle Trail with its gardens and nature walks, the Malt Whisky Trail with its famous distilleries, and the Coastal Trail with its beautiful golden sandy beaches, walks and Troup Head sea bird nature reserve. We are within reach of the Cairngorm National Park with the Lecht Ski Centre and can give you advice on tour planning.

how this holiday makes a difference
|
Wherever possible we source quality produce from local producers, it not only helps the local economy but reduces the pollution caused by transport. That means for the benefit of our guests we use best Scottish bacon, pork sausages and Aberdeenshire Angus beef from the local butcher who sources his supply from local farms. We try to use organic and fair trade products where these are available. In addition, we grow our own organic parsley and chives.
We get our electricity from Scottish Hydro-Electric. They guarantee that the electricity comes from renewable sources and plant trees according to our specific energy consumption. We have already reduced our overall consumption of electricity by using low energy lighting throughout, dimmer switches, low voltage lights and movement detectors outside. We avoid using chemicals whenever possible. We use micro fibre clothes and a steam cleaner. Where chemical cleaners are necessary, we use a range of ecover products. Where possible we try to reduce the waste that we produce. We try to avoid plastic bags from the Supermarkets instead we use our own cotton shopping bags. In the bathrooms, we refill soap and shower gels. We do not use individual portions of jam, honey or butter. We use rechargeable Ni/MH batteries where possible. In our office, we reduced the amount of paper we use. We switched to paperless bills, print as less as possible on recycled chlorine free paper only and use the internet for communication. We recycle as much waste as possible. Aberdeen Council collects our glass, paper and metal waste as well as plastic bottles and batteries. We go one step further and recycle cardboard, plastics and plastic bags (when they not can be used anymore) at the Councils household waste disposal. We recycle our small amount of food waste together with teabags, coffee and eggshells on our compost to give it back to nature. |
Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people. We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel. 'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left). We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays. We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism. This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards. |
