how this holiday makes a difference
We encourage visitors to offset their CO2 emissions if they fly or drive down and give discounts to those that can show they have. We use phosphate free cleaning products, Ecover in the bathrooms, rooms and kitchen. Shower gels, shampoos and conditioners are all environmentally friendly and organic. Our rubbish is recycled and organic waste is composted.

Our radiators are all thermostatically controlled to reduce energy usage. The boiler, water heater, washing machine have A ratings and are amongst the most energy efficient on the market. Most of our toilet cisterns use the minimum amount of water needed per flush. The older ones have a 'hog' fitted to save water. We change guests towels and bedding every 3-4 days to save water. We are situated in the heart of a network of footpaths and encourage our guests to leave the car behind. We recommend that guests use the local biofuel taxi firm to get about. Our electricity is supplied by Scottish Power's HydroElectric Tariff.

The food served at breakfast is from the local farm shop. We have an efficient wood burner that uses locally sourced wood from a sustainable forest. Tea, coffee, sugar and fruit are all fair trade and organic wherever possible and are purchased from the award winning Cornish coffee company, Origin.

We have a Visitor Payback scheme which goes to the WET Trust (Watergate Environmental Tourism Trust) who look after the beach cleaning, education and safety of people visiting at Watergate Bay. This scheme is implemented via a voluntary £1 donation from each guest.

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've lead the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
