description
The cottage is situated in an idyllic location, one mile from the village of Wolsingham. From the moment you arrive you will enjoy its tranquillity and beauty.
Surrounded by fields and gently rolling hills, the cottage is in an area designated to be ‘of outstanding natural beauty’. Whether walking the fells, fishing on Tunstall Reservoir, biking, horse riding in Hamsterley forest, visiting the many historical landmarks or just relaxing in the garden, time spent at the cottage will refresh and invigorate the senses. Great attention to detail has gone into the decoration and facilities, which are to a very high standard.
Wolsingham village offers a good range of small shops, pubs and recreational facilities, including an indoor heated swimming pool. To appreciate the surrounding area, a car is necessary. Durham (20 minutes), Darlington (35 minutes), Newcastle (45 minutes) and The Metro Centre are within easy access for shopping, entertainment, dining, theatres and the Sage Music Centre. Our cottage is well situated to visit Durham Cathedral; the Durham Dales; Hadrian’s Wall, Beamish Museum, Auckland & Raby Castle; High Force; Alnwick Garden and the beautiful North East coastline.

how this holiday makes a difference
|
We are committed to providing a good quality service whilst minimising the environmental impact of our activities. Some of the main steps we have taken to reduce our impact are composting garden waste and recycling glass, cans and paper. We use environmentally friendly washing powder/conditioner, cleaning products, liquid soap and washing up liquid. We use recycled paper products and energy saving light bulbs.
We support the local community through supporting the local Church and playing an active part in Wolsingham village life. We are committee members of the Weardale Visitor Network. We support The Durham Wildlife Trust by membership and by telling our guests about them. Also, help organise The Durham Shopping Extravaganza held every year in October for local charities. We employ all local staff. We buy local produce from the nearby village shops for the guests and our meals. We use local services for the maintenance of the cottage. |
Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people. We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel. 'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left). We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays. We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism. This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards. |
