We are committed to providing a good quality service whilst minimising the environmental impact of our activities. Some of the main steps we have taken to reduce our impact include the use of low energy light bulbs, the use of, where possible, environmentally friendly cleaning products, and the use of water butts. To save on washing guests are requested to put dirty towels in shower tray if they want them washed and left on the towel rail if they don't. We use recycled paper, envelopes & toilets rolls, we have Hippos bags fitted in toilet systems and use smokeless fuel & wood on fires.
We recycle plastics, cardboard, glass, cans and newspapers and magazines. Organic waste is composted and bread is put out for the birds. Where possible we buy organic & free range & locally sourced food. We also grow our own vegetables. The hot water for the house and swimming pool is heated in solar panels on the roof and we have double glazing and 8" thick loft insulation. We employ 3 local people and one girl who is from Poland. We always use local people for every job. Even the solar power installation was a local company. |
Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people. We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel. 'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left). We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays. We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism. This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards. |
