description
We organize authentic day-tours with local guides and in small groups starting from our sympathetic ecolodge in Pedro Sanchez, which you can join for a day, when spending vacation in Bavaro or Punta Cana.

Our adventure tours are leading to many interesting natural attractions in the region. Though all of these places are spectacular, they are not yet overcrowded - better yet, they are: unspoiled, untouched, unforgettable!

They have made this region to become what it is today: the only "ecological corridor" in the East of the Dominican Republic.

By offering adventurous day excursions from Bavaro and Punta Cana to discover a beautiful nature, original Dominican lifestyle and rural culture, we have added a pearl in the crown of this famous vacation paradise.

Plan a tour to the beautiful Big Waterfall or to one of the caves on top of the hillcrest, or a relaxing Kayak Tour on the river Chavon, softly gliding through the rural landscape between El Seybo and Higuey enjoying the scenery. Or do Whale watching, make a Deep-sea Fishing Tour, or discover the whereabouts of an old Gold Mine.

Or do some horse riding in the valley half a day, to reach the long stretched Waterfall 'Marlboro'. We'll take you through the beautiful countryside, and undertake a wide range of eco-activities.

Horse riding in the Dominican RepublicAnd of course we invite you to stay with us for a few days in our lovely wooden ecolodge to enjoy the rural lifestyle. In Pedro Sanchez, a small sympathetic small village between El Seybo and Miches, you'll meet local people, learn about their lifestyle, their culture and their traditions, all at favourable prices!

The region between El Seybo and Miches is classified as "Ecological Corridor", and the sympathetic little village of Pedro Sanchez right in the middle of it, is a "Typical Dominican Village", small and clean like an example of how it should be, and it is visible that modern "civilization" did not yet leave any negative impact behind.

Our ecotours in the East of the Dominican Republic are for active people with a reasonable level of fitness and interest in outdoor activities. If you like to walk, run, hike, paddle, cycle, or go to the gym, you'll love our trips. You don't need to be a triathlete though! Based on respect for the culture and tradition of the local peoples, all our activities are adapted accordingly, to be merely "ecotouristic", which we define as follows: where different people, different cultures and nature can meet, without doing harm to each other. We'll minimize the time spent in a vehicle, and spend it on nature, adventure and relaxation.
travelling with a local operator
This holiday is operated by a company based in the holiday destination and they will be able to provide expert local knowledge. They will be able to tailor make your holiday to suit your requirements not only concerning the dates of travel but also typically the standard of accommodation, and thus price. It is rare for local operators to be able to help with the booking of your flights.
how this holiday makes a difference
Ecotourism makes a difference, and in the Northeast of the Dominican Republic with more than 44 resorts it is welcomed by both local people and visitors who want to connect directly. Here, you are guided by our local guides, and even if the language barrier sometimes makes it difficult to understand all, you’ll leave as friends. We stay away from controversial adventure tours (e.g. 4x4, quad biking, etc) but promote eco-friendly walking tours, hiking, etc. Furthermore we keep our groups small to reduce the impact on the nature areas visited.

Dominican Republic sceneryBy taking a day trip with us, you travel responsibly and every dollar spent during such a day trip reaches poor people. We offer you the chance to climb up the mountains with us in Pedro Sanchez, in the Cordillera Oriental, to discover a deep cave or a big waterfall, we offer horseriding in the valley, (each horse has a different local owner), or just a refreshment in the small river, where villagers go, now called 'Balneario Ecoturistico'.

We promote and visit local cultural events such as 'Atabales', or the famous patronales of the village and connect you directly with local nature and local peoples, typical Dominican traditions and culture.

Miches, on the other side of the hill, was a small fishermens village, almost forgotten. When starting our project we looked to integrate some natural attractions of Miches in our ecotour program, and of course a visit to the virgin beaches of Miches and a deep sea fishing trip starting in Miches was part of it. In the meantime, 4 international universities have signed up to work together in the planning of sustainable development, and a future for Miches with ecotouristic activities. The Columbia university (Manhattan, New York) approached us for information exchange, and we now develop new ecotours for Miches as well, integrating the natural attractions there such as Laguna Limon. The other universities are USF (University of Southern Florida), INTEC in the Dominican capital, and the university of Sevilla (Spain).

We eat at local restaurants and you have the opportunity to purchase items from local vendors, thus putting some dollars directly into local communities where they are most needed. We train individuals to become our local tour guides. Soon a volunteer from the US-Peace Corps will arrive to do community work for two consecutive years, teaching the villagers about ecotourism and nature conservation and how they can engage in it. In the past, we have not only created jobs, we have also empowered people to set up their own business in cooperation with us, like Julio, who is now selling his coffee, cacao and fruits at the roadside twice a week.

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
