introduction to Yurt accommodation in Andalucia
The location is idyllic - set in three hectares of olives groves and unspoilt cork oak forest, and with spectacular views of the Grazalema mountains of Andalucia, in the rugged wilds of southern Spain.
Staying in one of our yurts is the perfect way to enjoy the stunning scenery, allowing you to get back to nature without forgoing the usual luxuries you would wish for on your holiday. The yurts have private bathrooms, as well as an acre of private meadow with hammocks and comfortable shaded seating areas.
This is the perfect place to unwind and relax, and soak up the sights and sounds of nature right on your doorstep. Fall asleep lulled by the sound of goats' bells and crickets. Lounge in a hammock in the shade of a giant cork oak tree. Cool off with a dip in our refreshing chlorine-free swimming pool, surrounded by blue mountains and the beauty of nature.
Book in for a full body massage, a reflexology session or some invigorating yoga, or simply relax on a sunbed beside the pool. Our new pergola overlooking the pool and the mountains beyond is a perfect place to watch the sun go down in the evenings. Lounge with a cocktail, play backgammon or smoke a hookah in the Turkish style seating areas, decorated with antique kilims. Once or twice a week we hold a "film night" under the stars.
The local area has plenty to offer. Ride out into the countryside from the neighbouring stables, visit ancient caves with paleolithic paintings, go on a birdwatching trip or mushroom walk, or take a tour of one of several sherry bodegas in Jerez.

rooms, food and facilities
Our yurts are individually decorated and extremely spacious and comfortable. Choose between five very different styles of yurt. The yurts are all set up as double rooms with comfy beds, and pieces of traditional Mongolian furniture and exotic textiles. The Mongolian yurt is handpainted in burnt orange with traditional motifs in green, blue and gold. It has a clear crown which lets in lots of light and is great for stargazing at night.
The Afghani yurt is more romantic with bent willow poles and a deep red ceiling, making it cosy and intimate. The lupins in the meadow in front of it create a carpet of blue in the spring.
The Jaipur yurt is made of coppiced chestnut and is light and airy, with dappled light filtering down through the cork trees. It is named after its embroidered Indian bedcover. The Safari yurt is up at the top of the land with fantastic views over to Gaucin and Jimera, and is decorated in rich earthy colours.
The Maimani yurt is also made of coppiced chestnut but with a closer lattice and more roofpoles. It is named after the large Afghan kelim from the village of Maimani which is the centerpiece of the yurt.
The camp runs on solar power and the yurts have overhead and bedside lights as well as sockets for charging mobile phones and laptops. They all have private bathrooms with hot showers and ecological loos. Each yurt has an acre of private meadow with seating area, or you might prefer a hammock in the shade of the giant cork trees.
how to find our Yurt accommodation in Andalucia
By air: We are an hour and a half by car from Jerez airport and a two hour drive from both Gibraltar airport and Málaga airport. The drive from Jerez is particularly pretty.By public transport: If you arrive at Gibraltar, walk out of the airport and across the border (a couple of hundred metres), then hop into a taxi to San Roque (10 to 15 minutes) and then onto the train to Cortes de la Frontera (50 minutes) where we can pick you up.
how this holiday makes a difference
|
We try to use our own compost and manure from local farms. We encourage wildlife in our garden by clearing scrub and have seen many new species of birds and flowers return. We compost all of our food and garden waste and feed all our food waste to dogs. We recycle glass, plastic and paper and have facilities for our guests to recycle their waste too. We support the local community through our Yurt accommodation in Andalucia by encouraging our guests to visit local attractions, eat in local restaurants and by local produce. We also encourage our guests to use public transport or local services. |
Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people. We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel. 'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left). We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays. We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism. This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards. |
