  • how this holiday makes a difference
We are fully committed to green tourism and the care of the environment and are deeply involved in the local community and employ local help from the village. We were part of a pilot scheme to introduce Green Tourism Business Accreditation Scheme to S E England. Following the GTBS environmental assessment we were awarded a ‘Gold Award’ for excellence in environmental practice.

Conservatory, farmstay near DoverWe have created a wild flower meadow adjacent to the garden with seating for guests to enjoy the spectacular views in quiet contemplation or for the more energetic a choice of 3 farm walks with stunning views. Our whole farm has entered into an Environmental Stewardship Scheme to enhance flora and wildlife; part of which enhances the habitat of our butterfly colony. We have introduced bird boxes and feeders and a pond to encourage wildlife into the garden.

We offer quality locally sourced food from local farms, farmers’ market and our own eggs and produce in season with Fair Trade and organic choices. We are very conscious of ‘food air miles’! Try our delicious breakfast with local sausages made at Sladden Farm in the valley. We encourage our guests to eat locally and have a display of local crafts which our guests are able to purchase.

We have purchased energy saving household equipment, use eco-friendly cleaning products, recycle and compost our waste. We recycle as much as possible including glass, plastics, paper, cans etc and making our own compost. We take plastics and cardboard to our local community recycling centre and monies credited to our local community fund and the monies raised are used to benefit our village. Low energy lighting is used throughout the whole premises. Water butts are sited around the house for watering containers and hanging baskets during the summer.

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
