Our Praia do Rosa beach resort is also the headquarters of Instituto Baleia Franca (Southern Right Whales Institute). Five percent of whale watching tour sales is donated to the Institute to fund research projects; thus by choosing to go on these tours you will be helping in protecting these cetaceans. The company sponsors the Right Whale Institute which promotes talks about sustainable development, awareness raising, environmental education and for the promotion of a better quality of life for traditional communities.
We provide environmental education for local school children. The purpose of the project is to take the biologists to the schools where they show the children the importance of preservation of the Right Whales Environment Protected Area (APA da Baleia Franca). at our Praia do Rosa beach resort we also run workshops on recyclable paper, papier collé and theatre. This is part of the IBF's biologists project to protect the "APA". They teach how to do home recycling. The biologists along with the students make a theatre play showing why and how to protect the Right Whale. With its slogan "Enchanting naturally for the preservation of Right Whale APA”, Franca Atuação Project appears offers an innovative educational proposal to schools in the Garopaba and Imbituba area. During the whole school year, the IBF team goes to local schools carrying out with children eco-pedagogical workshops and art/culture activities with the purpose of forming conscious citizens who will be active in the socio-environmental area. This project includes training workshops for local school teachers as well, as a means to make environmental education present daily in the classroom. Growing organic vegetable gardens was the way found by IBF to work on issues like interrelation among all beings, recycling of nutrients in life cycle, rational use of natural resources and biodiversity. Based on this idea, professionals were invited to train the IBF environmental educators’ team for the implementation of vegetable gardens in schools and homes. The knowledge they acquired was transmitted to school children through theatre activities. We have 20 women from local communities working here, all of them are trained. |
Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people. We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel. 'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left). We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays. We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism. This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards. |
