description
Our chalet is located in a beautiful valley near Deloraine. It comprises a self-catering 2 bedroom chalet with kitchen and a self-contained double bedroom. The chalet sleeps five persons and unit2 sleeps two persons.

All this is on a well balanced chemical free 40 acres with 5 acres of bush land accommodating a variety of wildlife, this includes Wallabies, Potoroos, Tasmanian Devils our semi wild deer and more. There is also 4 acre of dam stocked with Rainbow Trout and not to be forgetting a pair of Platypuses.

You will love the one acre of garden with plenty of roses and a small orchard containing apple, pear and nut trees that surrounds your accommodation. There is also a few grape vines growing, mainly as a feed for the many and varied birds using it as their B&B. The rest of the land is for our miniature Herefords to spoil themselves in the lush pasture. how this holiday makes a difference
Chickens, Tasmania farmstayEco tourism accredited accommodation is quite rare in Tasmania and we are as far as we are aware the only one in northern Tasmania. We always have had a “save the environment” attitude, supporting this with our use of environment friendly cleaners, chemical free, to natural fertilizers, planting of many trees, preservation of natural bush and establishment of a small wetland area. Our farm animals are chosen for suitability to have minimal impact on the land and are never over stocked. Our guests are encouraged to respect our natural resources.

In cooperation with our local businesses we buy all goods and services from our district and in return get recognition for fair play. We do all our purchases locally, this amounts to quite a bit as we produce spring rolls in our registered kitchen for the local shop and restaurants. We support the local community by buying at the farmers market. We support the charity City Mission by donating food to their outreach centre and the occasional cash donation in times of plenty.  We are a member of the local tourism association, networking with other operators if we are booked out. We send guests to all local attractions, especially if thy are eco tourism accredited. We co-operate with the local restaurants and send them our guests if they don’t want to eat at the B&B.

We planted approx 1000 trees, plus also retained 5 acres of native bush. We created a wetland section with dam building. We keep miniature cows, as they are easy on the land. No chemicals are used, only natural fertilizers (fish, kelp) and organic principals are applied in all aspects of the whole operation. We get all of our electricity from hydro energy. We minimise energy use by advising our guests to use light and heaters sensibly and switch appliances off when not in use, we check in the morning all items and lights are off.

We collect rain water for use in the house and garden, as we are not connected to town water we promote our water as the best and too good to waste. We have showers and half flush toilets to reduce water use. We have a laundry scheme where we only change towels and sheets after 4 days or when guests request them. We feed all our food waste to chickens and dog. We recycle glass, plastic and paper and have facilities for our guests to recycle their waste too. We use recycled stationary. We give our guests leaflets and information about the conservation of the natural environment and encourage them to practise the same anywhere.

We also promote social cooperation between European and the indigenous community. We pride ourselves of having Aboriginal friends in the tourism business and we promote their venture on our web site or you can book an aboriginal tour with Jahadi, this includes smoke ceremony, spear throwing and other aboriginal activities.

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
