description
These riverfront, fully equipped 2 bedroom all glass and timber pole houses are located high in ancient, rare rainforest.

Only 90 minutes from Cairns and just 15 minutes from Millaa Millaa Falls or Lake Eacham, this unique property makes an ideal base to explore all the wonderful attractions of the Atherton Tablelands – the cool Cairns Highlands.

This privately owned 100 acre wildlife sanctuary offers just a pane of glass between luxury and wilderness and is only available to guests.

It is a habitat for many exotic birds and animals including the rare tree climbing kangaroos, cassowary, platypus, and Victoria’s Rifle birds. There are no mosquitoes, or crocodiles here.

It is a beautiful environment, with birds and possums visiting you on your verandah. You’ll even meet cheeky tortoises at the river! Enjoy walks on the property, do a guided spotlight tour, or take a free platypus tour. Each house has king and single beds, double spa bath, barbecue and hammock on the verandah, full cooking and laundry facilities, wood fire, ceiling fans, TV, telephone, internet access, DVD and a fauna species list.

We also have a ground level unit with assisted wheelchair access, plus a larger pole house (winner of 4 building awards) with 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. They are privately situated in the forest and ideal for families or couples.

  • how this holiday makes a difference
We get all our electricity from a green energy scheme, whilst paying a premium for using 100% renewable energy. We minimise energy use by using energy efficient light bulbs and appliances and turning off lights and appliances when not in use. Rain water is collected for use through out the resort, we have showers and half flush toilets to reduce water use. Waste water is treated through biocycle plants and returned to the rainforest. We have a laundry scheme where we only change towels and sheets when guests request them. Green eco cleaning products are used such as Enjo in the property. Chemical usage is at an absolute minimum. We cultivate our garden without the use of pesticides and fertilisers and encourage wildlife throughout the property through strictly maintaining the endemic ecosystem and established feeding stations. We are fully eco accreditted and are a member of a number of conservation based organisations and trusts.

The property actively supports onsite scientific research projects conducted by JCU and CSIRO staff. Our guests receive comprehensive information about the conservation of the natural environment. We are dedicated to the preservation and stewardship of a pristine and unique old growth rainforest and the rare and endangered wildlife that inhabit it.

All our staff are employed locally. We also encourage our guests to buy local produce from the nearby towns for their meals, and we use local services such as builders for maintenance. We support the local community by using local businesses and services wherever possible.

We also support a number of charities by donating money and prizes such as Variety Club of Australia, CWA, Angel Flight, Oxfam, assorted local community groups, local sporting associations and support groups.

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
