description
An Asturian traditional house totally rehabilitated into a one hectare property. This accomodation is a rural lodging with apartments for 2 or 4 people and 4 rooms with private bathrooms.
The property offers a children's playground and a picnic area.
There is an organic farm which breeds rare Asturian farm animals (xalda sheep, asturcon ponies and pita pinta chickens) with the help of a celtic tradition survival trust. We produce organic lamb and cider and use organic products for dinner and breakfast. Our Asturcon eco-museum contains exhibitions and activities related to the Asturian native breeds. There is also a factory of pottery, which produces traditional Asturian ceramics.
We are in a strategic location near the most important cities of Asturias, but in a rural area near the Cantabric Rocky Coast (1 km.), where jurassic fossils can be found, and near a Natural Area (Attractive Estuary of Villaviciosa, ideal for Birdwatching).
Walking. Birdwatching. Boating. Swimming at a little natural beach (4 km). Fishing. Cooking. Horseriding. Ceramic whorkshop.

how this holiday makes a difference
|
We operate an organic farm and our first objective is the breeding of local native farm animals and the conservation of traditional landscapes. For fruits and vegetables we have a policy of buying local and organic produce whenever possible.
We have implemented various measures so as to reduce our impact on the environment such as: we do not use individually packed items, we recycle waste, we use low energy light bulbs, and we control water pressure. We have installed solar panels for thermic and photoelectric production. We also provide guests with information on excursions in the area without using their car. Finally we have an eco-museum dedicated to the Asturian pony with objectives to implement traditional activities, the culture of Asturias and rural ecotourism. |
Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people. We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel. 'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left). We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays. We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism. This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards. |
