Come West to the beautiful unspoilt landscape of North Leitrim. Leave the traffic and crowds behind. The roads get smaller as you draw closer. Finally you catch a glimpse as you turn onto the long and winding lane to our retreat. The first thing you notice is the beauty of the open landscape and the silence. Nature is everywhere, take a deep breath, let go and let your holiday begin!
Steeped in nature the retreat offers a unique holiday experience for both families and individuals who want something different for their precious time away. You can explore our Celtic Nature Trail or take a long walk in the beautiful local countryside. Or book in for a natural healthcare treatment, soak and stargaze in our indoor/outdoor Uisce Area, with hot tub, detox box and steam room or simply relax in our revolutionary eco-cabins. how this holiday makes a difference

Our eco-cabins are revolutionary in their design. Built with timber frames, local sustainable cedar cladding, finished with eco paints and with no petrol chemicals used throughout, our accommodation is the latest in ethical construction. We use renewable energy, low energy lighting, wood stoves and solar panels for hot water.
We provide employment for local therapists, gardeners, and cleaners. At a time when Leitrim was considered the poorest and most socially deprived county in Ireland (it experienced huge loss during the successive recessions in Ireland- with the population of the entire county standing at 20,000), moving to Leitrim was considered applaudable. Starting a business was a real boost to the local economy and psyche. We have been in operation almost six years. We send a lot of business down to the village as our guests sample the Irish culture and music in the local pubs. Both ourselves and our guests use the restaurants and shops locally. We minimise and recycle and compost our waste. We reduce water usage and collect rainwater for water plants and washing windows etc. We also have a rainwater pond for use in the event of a fire. We have The Celtic Nature Trail which educates and documents all the mythological, botanical, culinary and medicinal use of our native plants and trees. Our gardens are home to badgers, hares and foxes. The lake beneath us – Lough Nahoo is a sanctuary for wild birds. We use no chemicals cleaning products and our gardens are totally organic. We buy our basics from the local shops and we have an organic grower who during the growing season provides a greenbox scheme to our guests and to our own kitchen. |
Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people. We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel. 'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left). We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays. We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism. This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards. |
