Canadian Rockies winter holiday

This mountain resort is nestled in the Canadian Rockies beside Kootenay National Park and offers guests a recreational and leisure environment situated right out the front door of our luxurious lodge and cabin accommodations.

The 2000 acre mountain resort brings to life the dream of its founders to create a unique wilderness haven for outdoor enthusiasts that is in harmony with the Kootenay's spectacular Rocky Mountain setting. As an eco lodge, it generates all its electricity via solar, micro-hydro, and takes pride that its beautiful cabins and lodge are energy self-sufficient.

The resort is also a working woodlot. You may observe the horse logging operation while out on the trails. Our cabins are constructed from woodlot trees killed by mountain pine beetles, which were milled and notched onsite. Much of our beautiful wood furniture grew on site and was produced right in our woodworking shop. Through sound and selective forestry practices, it is our goal to enhance the wildlife and recreational values of the area.

There is a natural emphasis on self-propelled recreation at the resort. With its 50-kilometre trail network and rivers nearby, the resort beckons visitors to hike, cross country ski, snowshoe, mountain bike, canoe and kayak. Our resort is a friendly sanctuary for weary workers, kids and families, or for group gatherings. With facilities for conferences and group retreats for up to 100, this is an ideal destination for weddings, and remarkable retreats for friends, family and businesses.  Cross Country Skiing: In conjunction with the BC government, we maintain 50km of groomed cross country ski trails, and an additional 30km of single track biking, hiking and trail running trails. Ski to see the splendour of the natural bridge or along the rising cliffs of the Cross River and Kootenay River. The Woodlot trails to the South of the cabins are beginner- intermediate, while the trails to the Natural Bridge and Corral Creek on the north side of the resort are intermediate-expert. Our ski school offers lessons by Lyle Wilson, former Canadian Olympic cross-country ski coach.

Touring and Snowshoe Treks: For the tourers and snowshoers there a many kilometres of winding trails and the single track left over from the hikers, mountain bikers and runners of summer. One of our best trails follows the cliffs of the Kootenay River south to Cochrane Creek. Snowshoe rentals and guided naturalist snowshoe tours are both available.

Hot Springs: Just 32 kilometres from the resort is Radium Hot Springs. A great family oriented facility, Radium Hot Springs features a hot mineral pool as well as a cool swimming pool with pool slide and play area. Of course, you may prefer to stay closer to home and dip into our hot tub, or take a backroads drive to Lussier Hot Pools, tucked away in the heart of the Rockies.

Ice Skating & Toboganning: Don't forget to bring your skates! Our pond will be open for skating, crack the whip, and pick up hockey (this is Canada, eh!). And, make sure to bring the kids toboggans because Mount Sledmore located near the cabins is the ideal tobogganing hill.

Sightseeing: The natural setting of our resort lends itself to unsurpassed bird and wildlife watching. Wander on your own or join in a guided hike to learn more about the wildlife and wild sights around you. As night falls, you may see a herd of elk grazing their way through the meadow at sunset and then the sky comes alive with stars. If you are lucky the Northern lights will make an appearance. Sit around the fire pit roasting marshmallows or just gaze into the flames, listening to the wolves howl.

The Lodge (sleeps 13): 
Finished in 1998, the lodge is an impressive timber frame building comfortably accommodating 13 guests in luxurious style and classic rustic decor. The lodge faces the vistas and valley of Kootenay National Park in the Canadian Rockies and is perfect for group events among friends or families, or work colleagues. There are two bedrooms on the upper level, and two bedrooms on the lower. The main level features a full size kitchen adjoining a large dining area, with a BBQ outside on the porch. At the far end is the Great Room with a stone fireplace. There are two complete bathrooms and there is a wood-burning stove on the lower level.

The Cabins (sleep 2-6):
We also offer accommodations in unique, luxurious self-contained log cabins furnished to compliment the natural setting. Each cabin has a spectacular view and our extensive trail system is right out your front door. There are six cabins in total (2 smaller ones, and 4 larger ones) and each one offers guests a number of facilities. All of the cabins come with fully equipped kitchens, all linens, towels, toiletries, paper products, soaps, cleaning products, & gas BBQ's are here waiting for you. All you require is your own food, refreshments, clothing and recreational equipment.

Disabled access: We have recently built a cabin with wheelchair access.

Family & baby friendly: We are family friendly, and provide facilities for children and babies of all ages.

Pet friendly: We are pet friendly and we have even built a ski trail specifically to take your dog on. There are some "common sense" rules regarding your pets and you are expected to pick-up after them. Please make an equiry to ask us about rates for pets.
