Our Kruger safari bushcamp is a classic African safari camp located in the Timbavati Private Nature Reserve, which forms part of the Greater Kruger National Park. This authentic camp is the ultimate experience of true wilderness and seclusion, accommodating only 16 guests in traditional African reed and thatch huts. Our philosophy of simplistic luxury and 'getting back to nature' is enhanced by the romance of operating without electricity. how this holiday makes a difference
|
Our mission statement: 'We the lodge team will, with teamwork grow using our African Culture to accomplish the streamlining of all operational systems to achieve profitable, harmonious, business and personal growth.' We consider our Staff to be our most prized asset and strive to be leaders in the industry as far as community upliftment is concerned.
We have developed a Youth Leadership programme and we entice learners to visit the lodge, where they are hosted, giving them insight into environmental issues and finding out about eco-tourism career opportunities. Some become involved in work shadowing. We have hosted a learner tracker, Jimmy, who obtained board, lodging, a stipend – even driving lessons. Ruth secured a Hospitality / House-keeping Learnership. The tracker learnership programme forms part of a Timbavati-wide initiative to provide learning opportunities for local black youth. Two of our trackers have been promoted to the position of ranger and one of our housekeeping staff promoted to chef. Our present operations manager started here as a tracker, was promoted to ranger then assistant manager, and now to his current position. We have done a survey and discovered that each of our staff members supports an average of 8 people. We are 'Fair Trade in Tourism South Africa' certified. FTTSA is an independent non-profit organisation that promotes sustainable and equitable tourism development in South Africa. |
Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people. We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel. 'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left). We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays. We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism. This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards. |
