description
Our cabins are situated in a unique and serene environment and are designed to take full advantage of the panoramic views of the mountains and sea. Building construction incorporates local wood which seamlessly blends into the forest.
We also have a stone cottage which has a self catering kitchen that is fully equipped for your convenience. The outdoor dining area is poised for dramatic views of the Caribbean Sea and cool evening breeze. This house is perfect for families or couples.
Mango, Pawpaw, Almond trees as well as Banana and Breadfruit add a charming touch to this romantic setting.
Stone foot paths take you into the forest or down by the river where you can take a cool bath, observe the many species of birds that come to visit, or just relax and read a book. You can make yourself at home in the open-air dining room and relax in the artisan décor of Dominican wood furnishings. Begin your day over slow roasted coffee, just -picked juice of the day, full breakfast, and bird watching.
During the day you have many options at your disposal. We are fortunate to have challenging hiking, hidden waterfalls, and explorable ruins all within our valley. We can also make the necessary arrangements for knowledgeable and friendly guides to accommodate your special interests.
The evening brings a backdrop of chirping frogs and crickets as you savor what our guests have heralded as “the best food in the universe!” We believe in taking time to prepare a meal. We enjoy celebrating, through creative cuisine, the coming of what is in season. Our resident chef is forever integrating his mastery of international cuisine with the exotic produce and savory seasonings of the region. Dinner always begins with hot, home baked bread. A sample menu would start with a mixed green salad with beets and papaya dressing. An entrée of African style peanut stew with sweet potato, ladies yam, garden ochra, and wild ginger served with a portion of lemongrass rice to follow. And as for dessert, a hint would be to take stock of what fruits are piling up. Our favorite is homemade mango ice cream!
Dominica's waterfalls, snorkelling coves, and hiking trails are all easily accessible our accommodation. While staying with us next to the nearby river, Riviere La Croix, you will be invited to watch or participate in some of our savoured chores such as making cocoa, roasting coffee, and squeezing fresh picked fruits for juices.
No matter how you choose to spend your time in Dominica, we know that you will take home with you health and happiness.

rooms, food and facilities
The cabins (sleep 1-2): Designed to take full advantage of the panoramic views of the mountains and sea. Building construction incorporates local wood which seamlessly blends into the forest. The grounds are lush with tropical flower and fruit plants. A locally handcrafted bed enlivens the cabin. Sights of the sea can be had from this vantage point or from the ten foot verandah. Each cabin has a spacious private bathroom and shower.
The Stone House (sleeps 2-4): A stone cottage with one bedroom downstairs with a full bed and one lofted bedroom upstairs with two beds. It has a self catering kitchen that is fully equipped for your convenience. The property has a private entrance and is surrounded by aromatic gardens and a lily pond. The accommodation is perfect for families or couples. Guests of the cottage have access to all our amenities such as pool and hot tub and are also welcome to join for dinner upon reservation.
The on-site greenhouse and gardens cater to fresh and fine cuisine. It is important to us to cultivate wholesome foods from the inherently rich soil of Dominica, thus minimizing the time between plants and plate.
We encourage a moonlight soak in the bay infused hot bath for weary muscles. Take a taste of a bush tea with you and try and count the shooting stars. The convenient stone plunge pool makes for a refreshing dip any time of day.
Although Dominica is surrounded by gorgeous waters, it also harbors some of the most beautiful fresh water rivers! Riviere La Croix allows for a purely cleansing and rejuvenating experience to weary hikers. All of our drinking water comes directly from a mountainside source of fresh and great tasting spring water.
Our lounge is more like a living room with a complete library. In addition to an eclectic mix of fiction, we have an expanded resource corner of Dominican information and literature. You will find books on birding, sea life, flora, and natural healing. There are also studies of Dominican history, music, architecture, and cuisine as well as local works of fiction and poetry. Feel free to roll out the big map, consult the guidebooks, and chart a course for the day. There is an assortment of instruments if you are inclined and all of the favorite games are there. High-speed wireless internet connection is available.
Feel free to wander about the garden paths that meander throughout the property, complete with self-guiding labels of ornamental flowers, fruit trees, culinary herbs, and medicinal plants.
Have a look in the greenhouse to see what is growing. From there you can pass through the passion fruit orchard and visit our lady chickens and goats. They love the attention and are sure to put on a show. For the bold there is still more as a steep forest track winds its way to a viewpoint of the majestic Morne Trois Piton.
Family & Baby friendly: We are family & baby friendly. Our cottage is perfect for families.
how to find us
By Plane: Nearest Airport - Melville Hall airport (one hour away through the rainforest)how this holiday makes a difference
Our accommodation is an eco-sensitive establishment in that we effectively "recycled" the ruins of an original hotel, building on existing foundations, using local hand-harvested materials within previously landscaped areas. We are fortunate to be situated on Riviere La Croix that provides all of our utility water via a ram pump. Our drinking water comes from a natural mountain spring. Our community is very involved in our project by offering trail guiding, educational farm tours, supplying additional produce, and providing transportation. We have been very fortunate to have both visitors and neighbors with ecologically conscious lifestyles. It is a pleasure for us to facilitate this exchange. The utility water comes directly from the river by a ram pump which we built using locally obtainable materials. The unit consist of only two moving parts and runs entirely on the energy derived from the river. The ram is able to hydraulically pump water vertically over 200 ft up the mountain where it is stored in cisterns and gravity feed to areas where needed. This system delivers us over 1000 gallons of water a day and works 7 days a week 24 hours a day. We also make use of our abundant rainfall by capturing rainwater and utilizing it in our pools and ponds. The drinking water is delivered fresh each day from our numerous fresh water springs. We use several compost methods to maintain a rich organic soil for our flowers, herbs, and vegetables. The three bin system gives us a good quantity but takes a bit more time. We also use rotating barrels that work extremely fast but have limited capacity. Free stand composting is utilized about the property and gives us very large quantities but takes more time. We use a shredding machine to help break down fallen limbs, coco pods and leaves to a very small size which speeds up the composting process. Our chickens and dairy goats are quite good composters themselves. The pen manure is mixed with compost and the soil is adjusted accordingly for the optimum PH balance necessary. |
Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people. We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel. 'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left). We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays. We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism. This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards. |
