description
Our holidays are designed not only with luxury and comfort in mind, but also with the welfare of our planet at the centre of everything.

From fresh local food to recycled materials used whenever possible, our holidays make a very low impact on the local environment, on our planet, and support the local community and economy.

We use no fossil fuels on site, only wood and charcoal from local sustainable woodland.

Our holidays provide a luxurious base from which to explore the beauty and interest of the Isle of Wight and also provide an eating and living experience that may change people’s approach to their own lifestyle.

Guests also have the peace of mind of knowing that their holiday is adding little if anything to the effects of global warming. Guests stay in luxurious and comfortable Mongolian style Yurts and traditional Bell Tents in the heart of the beautiful area. They are fully equipped with double beds, tables, chairs, sofa-beds or day beds and sleep up to 5 people. The Yurts have wooden floors and the Bell Tents sturdy groundsheets and all have rugs and mats for comfort. Each has a small woodburning stove for heat, hot water and limited cooking. There is a central cooking and leisure tent and the site boasts comfortable compost toilets and solar showers. There is a licensed café and farm shop on site specialising in organic and local produce.

special things to do and see here

We have a range of card and board games, jigsaws etc. on site but for those looking for a more energetic pastime we will try to assist with any sporting requirements you may have but amongst those on offer as optional extras are sailing, waterskiing, windsurfing, kitesurfing, horse riding, mountain biking, fishing, tree climbing, clay pigeon shooting, golf, gym, tennis and hang gliding. Tuition is available in many of these sports. In addition we hope to be able to offer other activities including arts and crafts classes, yoga and relaxing massage, tai chi, basket making and painting.

  • how this holiday makes a difference
We do not employ any full time staff but any part time staff will be locally based. As may be seen from our website we promote and offer links to a wide range of local businesses including food producers, retailers, service providers and pubs and restaurants. We also offer links to the IOW Tourist Board site which promotes many local businesses and activities. We deal with many local companies offering sporting and cultural activities and training for those who are seeking active holidays. Our website lists many opportunities to have an active holiday but we will also be seeking to promote a range of therapy and craft based activities.

Yurt accommodation on the Isle of WightWe strive to be as environmentally friendly as is practicable in operating our business. We use no mains electricity or gas in our accommodation offering solar power options where possible. We promote the use of woodburning stoves, braziers and barbeques for cooking although we do provide Calor stoves for early morning convenience. We use only wood and charcoal produced from sustainable woodland and all wood ash collected and not used in our compost toilets will be cleared from the site at the end of the season.

Our guests are encouraged to recycle their waste in the separate bins and buckets provided with newspaper, not used in firelighting, aluminium and glass being removed from site for recycling and all organic and vegetable waste being composted on site for use the following year on the orchard or vegetable plots. We supply and use only environmentally friendly washing and cleaning products on site.

We suggest on our website and in our leaflets that our guests should leave their cars at home whenever possible. We offer transport from and to all the Island’s ferry terminals, all of which have good rail and bus links on the mainland, and offer our guests cycle hire and bus rover tickets during their stay. We also offer low emissions car hire for those who require it. We aim to reduce water wastage on site by virtue of the construction of our solar showers. These are being built on the same lines as our compost toilets with two 50 gallon drums to collect grey water which will then be used to irrigate the orchard, vegetable plots and gardens on site. Our site is well served by local buses and there are many footpaths and bridleways in the area.

We encourage our guests during their stay not to purchase or utilise products that are not organic, eco-friendly, from sustainable resources or do not support local businesses or producers. We offer only Fairtrade or local produce in our welcome food packs and in our Breakfast service and the on-site café specialises in organic and local produce with a range of vegetarian and wheat/gluten free options.

Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people.

We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel.

'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left).

We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've lead the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays.

We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism.

This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards.
