Located in Poitou, at Lussac-les-Châteaux, the hotel was opened in 1999. This 3-star hotel of charm offers 7 bedrooms and 3 family apartments in an authentic 18th century house.
Wander through the house’s vast "jardin à l'anglaise", created by English garden designer Patsy Boughton. Specialising in old roses and David Austin varieties, perennials and mixed-borders, her magnificent garden, "Le Jardin des Rosiers" at La Puye, can be visited from late spring to mid-August.
With pétanque, croquet and skittles; the garden is also the magic realm of outdoor games. Children will have fun discovering the shaded games area under the pine trees and the wood cabin we are currently building.
In the winter months the pool is closed, but you can swim at the modern aquatic centre at Civaux (8km), which includes a play area and full balneotherapy section.

how this holiday makes a difference
|
100% of the hotel’s electricity comes from renewable energy sources. Green petrol and low consumption light bulbs are used and each room is fitted with a key card which stops the electrical supply (except to the plugs marked by red spots, which allow you to re-charge mobiles and cameras) when you leave the room.
The whole park around the hotel has been graded LPO (League for bird protection) sanctuary. The hotel takes care to use only environmentally friendly products. In order to conserve water there are discharge limits on valves on valves, shower heads and flushes in all rooms. Meals are prepared using organic products from the eco-hotel’s vegetable gardens and farms in the neighbourhood. For recycling, the hotel uses a selective waste sorting system in the town and has a dedicated composting area in the garden. In addition the hotel use recycled paper and biodegradable cleaning products and have a sustainable purchasing policy. We have referenced 15 food suppliers at an average distance of 22km from the hotel. Most of them are organic; the others use chemicals responsibly (agriculture raisonnée). Several suppliers also have a social aim (reinsertion) or work with the local farm school. We have a wide range of local drinks, and suggest organic aperitifs from the region, like Cognac or Pineau des Charentes. Our suppliers of goods and services accompany us in our approach by trying to improve their environmental performance and are happy to help us teaching our staff and looking for innovative products with a high environmental performance. In return, we help them in their R&D activities, by testing their new products. We help our guests to organise their stay, by recommending natural and touristic local sites and helping them to pick the most effective itinerary: for example, Saint Savin abbey and the Fresco Valley, classified UNESCO World Heritage, located 20km away from the hotel. We also recommend the visit of our local suppliers to our guests. We are happy to sensitize local community to environmental issues whenever we can. In the frame of the National Waste Reduction Week (which took place from October 9th to the 15th 2006), we welcome pupils from both primary schools in the village, with a double aim: |
Tourism can be good and bad for destinations & local people. We carefully screen every holiday against our criteria for responsible travel. 'Look behind the brochure' to find how each holiday makes a difference (see left). We don't claim to be perfect - there is no global accreditation - but we've led the way since 2001 and screened 1000's of holidays. We invite every traveller to write a review about their experiences and responsible tourism. This valuable feedback is sent to the people who run the holidays. We keep a very close eye on it and take off holidays that don't live up to our standards. |
